How does the headlight switch work for 2006 S40? The (0) position keeps the xenon on when car is in ignition. The parking lights, keep the headlight off, however, when the car is off the parking lights remain on. The headlight position, also keep the xenon on at all times when the car is in ignition. Is there a selection to keep the headlights off at all times?

Your problem is at your key. The switch in the steering colmb is cracked or worn out. When it happens, try rotating the key counter clockwise just a little bit and watch everything start to work.
Good Luck,

SOURCE: Headlights both went out last night. High beams

There is a relay that controls the headlights, volvo calls it a step relay. You will have to check that power is getting to this relay. If not, check all fuses and wiring. If power supply checks out ok, you may have to replace the relay. Let me know if you need any more info or a wiring diagram.

It could also be the switch. Or coincidental failure of both bulbs. Check with a test meter.

Keep blowing tail light fuse 45 on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am?

There is an issue, you have a dead short in the circuit, no quick fix for this. You must first get a wiring diagram of the entire circuit and then follow it until you locate the shorted wire or component.

Why the brake light works and tail light don't work Chevrolet avalanche 2003

they are dual filament bulbs so the tail light filament might have blown and not the stop light , replace the bulb to check

Headlights Won't Turn Off With Switch

Either someone wired the light power directly to a ignition powered fuse or the light switch itself has shorted out in the on position. I would try to chase the wires first and if you do not see anywhere that they were messed with, then try a new switch. (check if your tail lights are on with the head light.) if the vehicle was ever sold in Canada they have a law all cars have to have full time headlights to operate.

Hope this helps

Low beam headlights keep burning out, 8 times on

If you visit many forums for Elantras, you will see that frequent headlamp failure is very common. It has been discussed over and over again and it is thought that always turning the lights off and on via the stalk switch is recommended. If you leave the light switch in the on position, when you start your car, the lights briefly flash on then off again as you turn your ignition to the start position and then turn on again as you release the key to return to the "on" position. This may be causing a power surge which creates stress on the bulb filament and can only be avoided by using the light switch instead of the ignition to power up the headlamps.

Describe your 1991 Oldsmobile Calais .When I turn the car off with the headlights on the car keeps running. When I turn the headlights off the motor turns off. ALso the tail lights and instrument lights...

It's not the ignition switch. Someone has been playing with the wiring. What was done to your car? Did someone wire up something to work that didn't or did someone install something that had to be wired like a stereo? Somewhere the parking light circuit has been wired to the ignition 1 circuit.

Try the following sequence:

Turn the headlight switch to the middle position "parking light".
Turn the ignition key in position II.
Pull the turn signal lever towards you and hold it while turning the headlight switch to position 0.

Light warning buzzer constantly on

Have you checked that the headlight switch is in the right position? Are the headlights or parking lights still on when the key is removed?

If so, then rotate the lamp switch to the correct position and the buzzer will go off. Headlights and parking lights are not controlled through the key circuits.
