77 vw van won't start consistently

I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to jump these old vw's, but found out only after doing so when the battery was dead one day. It fries a relay or something. The engine will turn over but doesn't seem to spark. Now it will only start if i spray a bit of starter fluid in before turning it over. After letting the engine warm up for a bit i've tried to turn it off and immeditely trying to restart it will not fire. any insight you could give would be most helpful. thanks

I believe you have a problem with your fuel pump relay... it is a "double" type.. one side energizes the pump while key is in "start" position, the other side is for "run"... the start side of the relay is not working, hence once you get it to fire with a squirt of ether or fuel and return the key to "run", it will run, but will not restart. Replace the relay... (they are kinda spendy...)

1998 GMC Safari van won't start.

The ground should connect to the motor and the motor should connect to the body or chassis. Pour some water on the connection to the engine and the battery terminals. If it is a bad connection things should improve. If you jump start, the donor vehicle needs to be running at a fast idle.

Why won't my 2004 Jetta vw 2.0 start up after I

Jump starting a cpu controlled vehicle by the incorrect use of the cables will damage the cpu unit by the surge of current that is delivered to it. Have the cpu check out. It is not a matter of positive to positive and negative to negative as it was with older cars.

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has a new battery but won't start. When I try to jump start it, it just makes a clicking sound but won't start.

Most likely you have a bad connection somewhere. Trace the battery cables and clean/tighten all terminals or try jumping to a different lug. You might also try removing the starter and jumping directly to the starter to verify that it is good.

My VW golf TDi won't start since I changed my battery. It started fine for three days and now there is absolutely nothing there when I turn the key not even a click. Please help

1. Do all lights, accessories, central locking system etc in the car all operate normally.

2. Have you tested to see if the car starts when you try jump starting from another vehicle.

3. What warning lights were displaying on the vehicle a day or 2 before you had the problem.

4. Were you having the same starting problems with the old battery that you have just replaced.

I was wondering if you could give me some things to check on my van won't start and we tried jumping it. The lights all come on with full charge . So I was wanting to know if there is a reset button...

if u unplug your battery for acouple hours it will reset youre ecu/cpu. (everything) does it turn over? or absolutly nothing? if nothing sometimes ur battery loses so many electrolytes it can't retain a charge therefore jumping won't help. new battery first step! local junkyards probably have a good battery for $20. Let me know if this helps.

CANT GET VW BEETLE STARTED

hi if its not been started for five years and it is trying to start but just won,t keep running get someone to tow you and jump start it because i suspect the compressions will be low due to a build up of damp carbon valves sticking all in all the seats on the head and valve will not be seating so if you persisist with the jump start it forces the valves onto the seats and will clear the debrie if it still won,t go check your compressions yates210456
