SOURCE: Air Conditioner for Benz 1998 E320

Check system for codes;

Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes (DTC Memory)
Air Conditioning (A/C)

Models 208 as of MY 1998

Diagnostic trouble Code Memory [15]

Note:

  • The A/C pushbutton control module (N22) has DTC memory and data output. The diagnostic trouble codes and data are displayed via the temperature display window. The stored DTC's will remain in memory even with the vehicle battery disconnected.
  • The DTC memory differentiates between current and intermittent faults.
  • Numerous DTC's can also be read with the Hand-Held Tester (HHT).

Preparations for DTC Readout

  1. Review 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 31, 31, 41
  2. Ignition: ON
  3. Temperature selector: left: "HI"; right: "LO"
  4. Ignition: OFF
  5. Ignition: ON
  6. Within 20 seconds press REST and EC simultaneously for more than 5 seconds.
  7. The LED in Recirculated Air flashes and the display shows "d1A".
  8. Press AUTO repeatedly until all DTC's are displayed. Record each DTC as it is displayed.
  9. Each fault (short circuit, open circuit) is assigned a DTC. Thus in the left display: "E1" appears, and the right display indicates the DTC. The current faults (refer to table) are displayed first, next, the intermittant failures (e.g. 45 °5) are displayed in the display window next to the FAN symbol. By pressing the right AUTO the next DTC is displayed.
  10. To erase: Can only be performed after all faults have been readout. Press left AUTO and right AUTO buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds and the display shows: left: "d" and right: "FF". To cancel erase: By pressing the left AUTO button, the current faults will appear again.
  11. Select a base temperature setting.
  12. Turn ignition OFF, to end test.
Note: Due to instrument cluster (IC) series interface, DTC's may be stored in IC memory, therefore readout and erase DTC's from IC memory.

SOURCE: 1986 Mercedes 300e The air conditioner vents blow

All the blend doors and vents are controlled by vauum. If you look in the rear firewall behind the brake master cylinder you will see a vacuum check valve with lines entering the cabin of the vehicle. The yellow colored ones are for your central locking, the green for a/c system, and red for your heater/water valve, clear for your source. Try isolating your vac. systems by unplugging lines and capping them off. Any leak in either system can adversly affect another system. So isolate your leak and then you will have to test your actuaters in the leaky system. If you unplug the red line and cap it off-the water will stop entering your heater core.

Why when I start my car is there an odor coming from vents that smells like something is burning, and my Air Conditioner still blows, but it only blows out hot air. 2008 Chrysler Sebring. Help?

have an accredited ac shop as an ac cannot produce hot air only cold air so that means that the ac is not working (leaks low on gas etc). The hot air is from the heater in the car and the smell is probably wire overheating or the resistors are burning.

1998 Blazer A/C blows hot air. When I turn on the air conditioner it does not click. However, hot air still comes out of the vents instead of cold.

You need to recharge your a/C in the short term to get it going again. An auto parts can sell you a recharge kit for something like $30-50. if it stops working again your a/C system had a leak somewhere and you need to get that checked out by a shop or you can inject a uv dye and find the leak yourself.

Left Vents blow warm/hot air when calling for cold air

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door under the dash.
The blend doors direct air thru the ac and heater core along with the upper and lower vents.

Air Conditioner blows hot air mechanic said I need to replace the cooling system unit. Also, power windows do not work, mechanic said it is the switch. What switch?

the vent door on your heating and cooling system probably has a broken vent door which is preventing the cooold air from entering your vehicle its either the control switch for the windows or the window relay for the window motors

The compressor and fan don't come on when the air conditioner is turned on and hot air comes through the vents. However, when the relays are removed and a test wire is inserted into the relay port, th

Sounds like a bad heater control unit, or bad control module. You are bypassing the switch when you jump the relays, so usaully the switching mechanism is suspect.

1999 Ltd. The right vents blow hot air but left vents blow cold

Yes go to you have to get the codes from your ATC controls first...Hold down the A/C button and the Recirculating button at the same time and while holding the two buttons turn you left temp. control up. It should give you codes if not then it will just read 00. Once you get those find out what they mean...20, 46,52,or 54 means you blend door(s) are stuck down and have to come up to allow heat to flow. Go to www.heatertreater.net and it will tell you how to replace it or in my case I just fixed it by putting a screw in it to hold the doors up....But hey i'm cheap so i like quick fixer uppers!!! Try that and lemme know if it works...

replace the air conditioner relay, its located underneath the hood, you will see the relay center there, look underneath the cap to identify which is the ac relay switch.
