"Cruise" on a 5-speed '00 Hyundai Elantra

I recently bought a used '00 Hyundai Elantra 5-speed - there was no owner's manual and I'm having no luck finding one online. There's a button on the console that says "Cruise" and has an indicator light above it. I do not see anything to set speed as with cruise control and pressing the button seems to do nothing but make the indicator light glow. What is this button for?

Thank you very very much! I've never seen cruise controls on a windshield switch... worked like a charm - thanks again!

Actually a really simple thing. Too elaborate on what the first response put, simply click that "Cruise" button so the light is on. Next, when you're at the speed you want to mantain, click the button on the end of the windshield wiper switch. If you want to drop your speed after that, simply hold down on that same button. If you want to raise the maintained speed, simply slide in the button facing you on the windshield wiper switch. If you want to turn OFF cruise control you can do it one of two ways, either press the "cruise" button again, or simply tap the brakes. If you want to accelerate briefly but maintain that cruise control speed, simply use your accelerater pedal.

I have this same car. The place you set speed control is on the windshield wiper switch on the right side of the steering column. The button with the indicator light has to be pushed in order to use the cruise control but just because the indicator light is on, it does not mean the cruise is on. Hope this helps a little. If you need more info and someone else doesn't answer more eloquently.. I'll check back and try to give you more info. :-)

2005 Elantra cruise control can't maintain speed that it is set to.

Are you on a flat road when this happens, if so it is not normal, if you are climbing it is normal because this car is underpowered for that and the cruise will lose speed, have first hand experience with this .

My speedometer odometer;cruise recently stopped working 2000 Hyundai elantra I don't know where to start looking?

First thing I would go after is the speed sensor on the transmission. Have the codes read to make sure. The sensor is on the drivers side. Standing at the fender, look down between the air plenum/filter and the engine and you will see it.

My 2007 hyundai elantra cruise control isn't working. you press the cruise button then the set and the light just flashes up then disapears and nothing happenes

I bought my 2007 Hyundai Elantral about 8 months ago and have loved it! But on my way to work this morning, mine did the same exact thing that you have described here. I assumed it was a fuse (in denial about the fact that it could be something much more serious). Have you found anymore out regarding this problem since you posted this?

I bought a used 2007 Hyundai Elantra recently (my first ever car) from a private owner. When I key-in I see the battery & fluid lights on on the dashboard. Is that normal?

Most cars when you turn the ignition key on(not all the way to start) lights come on to tell you the bulbs are working and not burnt out. After you start the engine the warning lights go out or if the don't there is a problem with that device.Good Luck.
