2008 cadillac cts awd sunroof & shade will not open.

Is there anything else to check before changing the motors ? Yeah , hook up a factory or some other type of professional scanner an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes, also to see if the scanner will communicate with the modules. Changing batterys without a alternate power supply can cause modules to go to sleep permanently.

Battery Disconnect Problems (aa1car.com)

Power Sunroof System Components
The Power Sunroof and Sunshade System consists of the following components:
• Sunroof control module
• Sunshade control module
• Sunroof switch
• Sunshade switch
• Rail and track assembly upon which the sunroof and sunshade glass rides
• S/ROOF/SUNSHADE Fuse 30 A
• Body control module (BCM)

Don't be a parts changer, learn how to diagnose! So before you go wasting your money on parts not needed see if a professional scanner can communicate with all the modules on the vehicle.

The Power Sunroof System will operate only with the ignition turned to the RUN or Accessory positions, this allows for retained accessory power (RAP) control of the sunroof and sunshade through the body control module (BCM). With the ignition in the run or accessory positions, the BCM supplies the sunroof and sunshade control modules with ignition voltage which allows sunroof and sunshade operation. Once the ignition switch is turned to OFF the sunroof will continue to operate until any door is opened or when the RAP timer reaches its shut-off limit. For a description and operation of the RAP operation, refer to Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Description and Operation.

Circuit/System Description
The sunroof and sunroof shade modules supply each of the switch signal circuits with a 12-volt reference. When a switch is pressed the signal circuit is pulled low signaling the sunroof or sunroof shade open or close request. The modules determine the motor direction based on inputs received from the sunroof switches. When the modules reverse the polarity of the applied voltage, the motors reverse direction. The sunroof shade module contains the logic for opening and closing the sunshade based on Serial Data from the sunroof control module. Ignition voltage is supplied to the sunroof and sunroof shade modules by the BCM. B+ is applied to the sunroof and sunroof shade modules via the S/ROOF fuse.
The sunroof shade module contains the logic for opening and closing the sunshade based on Serial Data from the sunroof control module. The sunroof shade module internally applies voltage and ground to the appropriate circuits of the reversible sunshade motor in order to move the sunshade panel to the open or closed positions.

Sunroof won't open on 2013 Buick LaCrosse after replacing the battery.

A control module is used to operate the sunroof an if a alternative power supply isn't used so modules don't lose there memory they can go dead . The only way in most cases to get it working again is a trip to the dealer where they have factory scan tool to communicate with it !

Sunroof is stuck open and tried to reset it by holding button down for ten seconds and then it moves about half an inch and stays fully open. What do I need to do to get it to close?

Hi Thomas , First you should have it diagnosed by someone who has the tool to do so ! upscale scan tool , factory scan tool !
Diagnostic Starting Point - Roof
Begin the diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Power Sunroof . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:
?€¢
The identification of the control modules which command the system

?€¢
The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

?€¢
The identification of any stored DTCs and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Symptoms
When no DTCs ( diagnostic trouble codes ) are present, begin symptom diagnosis by reviewing the
Sunroof Description and Operation . Reviewing the Description and Operation information will help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the Description and Operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation. Refer to Symptoms - Roof in order to identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Important: If the suspected cause of an inoperative sunroof is a power interruption to the sunroof module, the sunroof must be re-initialized. Refer to Sunroof Motor/Actuator Synchronization .
Important: The following must be completed before using the symptom tables.

  1. Perform Diagnostic Starting Point - Roof in order to verify that all of the following are true:
  2. ?€¢
    There are no DTCs set.

    ?€¢
The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.

  3. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Sunroof Description and Operation .
Visual/Physical Inspection
?€¢
Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Power Sunroof system. Refer to
Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Wiring Systems.

?€¢
Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to
Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
Symptom List
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
?€¢
Power Sunroof Inoperative

?€¢
Power Sunroof Does Not Open to Express Position

?€¢
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) On After Timeout in Retained Accessory Power, if the power sunroof should operate longer than 20 minutes after the ignition has been turned OFF

This information is right out of GMC service repair manual !
Sunroof Motor/Actuator Synchronization
Synchronization will be necessary anytime the sunroof module battery positive voltage circuit is interrupted. The sunroof module will be synchronized when the controller learns the full vent position. The sunroof system will ignore any open request until the system has been synchronized.
To synchronize the sunroof:

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Using the close/tilt up portion of the sunroof switch, operate the sunroof glass until it reaches the full vent position.
  3. Verify that the system operates normally.
Once the sunroof glass reaches the full vent position, the actual position is stored in the memory of the sunroof module. The sunroof module will stop the motor one motor revolution before the defined actual positions.

Moonroof wont close all the way

Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuit's with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? When adjusting the moon roof did you see any switches ? sunroof limit switch
Measure the reference voltage of the sunroof limit switch soft stop signal circuit at the sunroof control harness connector to a good ground.
Does the reference voltage measure near the specified value?
4.5-5.5 V
Notice: Do not open the sunroof glass past the full open soft stop position. Doing so may damage the sunroof assembly and or the roof top.
Connect a jumper wire to the sunroof limit switch soft stop signal circuit at the sunroof control module harness to a good ground.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Using the sunroof switch, operate the sunroof system, not to exceed the full open soft stop position.
Does the system operate as requested?

Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Free one's here
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year ,make ,model an engine size . Under system click body & accessories ,then under subsystem click on sun roof . Click the search button then the blue link . See the control module , motor an the two switches ? One is probably miss adjusted . or bad !

Power Sunroof System Components
The power sunroof system consists of the following components:
• Sunroof control module
• Sunroof motor with the limit switches
• Sunroof switch
• Sunroof glass-spoiler type, with glass sliding above roof
• Sunshade
• Rail and track assembly upon which the sunroof glass rides
• Power sunroof system circuit breaker: PWR WDO 25 A
• Ground: G204

Sunroof Limit Switches
The sunroof limit switches track the position of the sunroof glass through two limit switches:
• Soft Stop limit switch through the sunroof limit switch soft stop signal circuit
• Vent Stop limit switch through the sunroof limit switch range signal circuit
The sunroof control module monitors the limit switches and based on the input combinations, determines the position of the sunroof glass. As a sunroof limit switch closes, the 5 volt reference will be shorted to the sunroof limit switch low reference circuit, pulling the 5 volt reference to 0 volts.
The sunroof control module monitors both sunroof switch input requests and based on the sunroof limit switch input combinations, will control an output to the sunroof motor, to drive the sunroof glass to the requested position.

Sunroof Motor
The sunroof has a bi-directional motor. When the motor is not operating both circuits are grounded. When the motor drives the sunroof glass in the direction from the closed to vent or vent to open position, the following occurs:
• Voltage is supplied to the sunroof motor open circuit.
• Ground is maintained to the sunroof motor close circuit.
When the motor drives the sunroof in the direction from the open to vent or vent to closed position, the following occurs:
• Voltage is supplied to the sunroof motor close circuit.
• Ground is maintained to the sunroof motor open circuit.
The sunroof control module is equipped with a timer circuit which stops the operation of the sunroof motor after 8 seconds.

Recently replaced the battery in my wife's 04 Solara. Now the sunroof will not work "automatically" like it did before. I now have to hold the button, when I only had to press and hold for a second before....

INITIALIZATION
1. INITIALIZATION OF SLIDING ROOF MOTOR
(a) The sliding roof AUTO operation and the jam protection function may not operate normally if the battery
is disconnected/reconnected, replaced or recharged. Initialize the sliding roof system using the method
below.
(1) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(2) Initialize the sliding roof by pressing and holding the TILT UP switch until the roof glass tilts upward
fully (the roof glass automatically tilts downward slightly after fully tilting upward).
(3) Release the switch.
HINT:
If the battery terminal is disconnected, the moon roof control ECU may not detect the position of the roof
glass. If the sliding roof AUTO operation is still disabled even after the sliding roof drive gear has been initialized,
the hall IC may be malfunctioning. The hall IC is built into the sliding roof drive gear and detects the
roof glass position.
If the result is not as specified, replace the drive gear assy (moon roof control ECU).

Factory reset

The problem is that your sunroof is operated by a PCB which contains computerized programmed IC.  This problem is not with battery.  You might have been operating your sunroof when your battery was down.  The programming of IC has been disturbed.  Take that PCB to the service centre.

Always operate your power windows/side mirror/ sunroofs when your car is start because these power stuffs have high rated motors.

When the car is start it's load is on genrator/dinamo therefore it does n't have any effect on battery.

mail me, if you would like to ask any thing else.

Thanx

Sunroof on Infinity QX4 (2001) won't work properly, the automatic open button only opens it about 2 inches at a time.

Good news I found out from a forum and it worked for me. Here it is

: 2002 pathfinder sunroof acts up after replacing battery (CKirbyjr) 5:30 PM 5/9/2008 qt.gif reply.gif edit.gif

Welcome to NICO -- The same thing happens whenever I disconnect my battery.
Try opening the sunroof all the way (2 inches at a time) and then close it (again two inches at a time). Turn the vehicle off and on again. Sunroof should operate normally.
I'm not sure if the last step is required but I've always done it anyway. It's worked all three times I've had my battery disconnected.
