I have a 2008 Honda LXP purchased Novemebr 2008. It has 21000 miles on the clock. From and since 15,000 miles I heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes after the car was stationary for over 10 hours, but after driving the vehicle for a couple miles, there was no such grinding sounds when I applied the brakes. At 20,000 miles I asked a Honda dealer to check the brakes and he said the brakes were OK. The problem only occurs after driving and braking after the vehicle ''sat'' for some time and then after driving a few miles, the grinding sound disappears when the brakes are applied. My wife took it to another Honda dealer at 21,000 miles and he replaced the rear brakes which he said were worn and was the cause of the sound. The car sat overnight and on driving out from my garage, the grinding sound returned and sounded even louder. Do you have any thoughts as to why this occurs?

From my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material

How to manually open the Nav DVD player disk door - Open button won't work. 2008 Accord

Sounds like the buttons are dirty. Remove the unit and remove the case. Clean the switch contacts with electrical switch / contact cleaner spray. Clean the connectors as well. If that doesn't work, take in for car audio repair.

Does my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee really need a tune-up as preventative maintenace at 39,000miles?

No it does not need a tune up in regards to spark plug wires and ignition related components at 39,000 miles, however air cleaners, and pcv valves should be replaced ever 10 - 15,000 miles. The primary Oxygen Sensor should be replaced at 60 to 80,000 mile intervals and the fuel filter done no later than 100,000 miles, hope this helps.

Driver side power seat

Absolutely, if you are hearing grinding noises, that's the internal gears. Also, if you put the car into Drive, Reverse and it takes a moment to go into gear, that's also a sign of a transmission going.

Just a FYI about transmissions, if you purchase a new car and plan on keeping your car for a while, I recommend changing the fluid every 15,000 miles. The dealer recommends 30,000 miles. But here is the kicker, you can acutally do harm in changing the fluid if you haven't done the normal maintenance scheudle fluid changes (every 15K or 30K). The reason is because as old fluid breaks down and if you don't change it and then put new fluid in after 80.000 miles, the new fluid become too corrosive and acutally breaks down the seals and causes slippage in the transmission.

I'm not sure of what your mileage is, but it sounds like the transmission is about to go based on what you are saying.

2007 jeep compass, 21000 miles, leased vehicle. speedometer and odometer stopped working, auto locks not working, em brake light on, brake is not, abs light on, 4wd light on

leased? take that thing back and dispute that it is not safe to drive. they need to do a complete check up on that vehicle. it could be as little as the the dash malfunctuning, to brake broken and 4wd broken. which idk how that would even be possible. at 21000 miles it may still be under warrenty and there is prob something writen into the lease about problems like this. please go to your dealer

When backing up and sometimes turning right my brakes(?) make a squealing sound. Almost as though a pebble is caught and grinding on something. Honda 2004 accord-50.000miles. I was told I needed new brakes...

Your rear brake pads are most likely worn to the wear indicator which can make a high pitch squealing noise. It is very common that it will squeal when backing up, but not when applying the brakes. 50,000 miles is about the average life for rear brake pads on your car.
