  • ronald_g_b Apr 10, 2009

I`ve replaced both idle air and the fast idle thermo-valve twice and still have same problem

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

replace the idle air control valve and check ur coolant bypass hoses for blockage(corrosion) replace as nedded and refill coolant to proper level...also bleed the system of air....it can be other things but this is most common solution........

I had the same problem with my honda. On the throttle body there is a screw that controls idle speed. If your idle speed is around 800-1000 rpm in neutral, tighten the screw a quarter turn each try until the idle speed is around 1500 RPM. Did this stop the idle?

I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX which idles with a "surge" while the car is in park...the "surge" goes away when you put it into gear. Any ideas?

On the throttle body, that's the part where the throttle cable goes on, will be a screw. might have a plastic cap covering it, remove cap, and with screw driver turn screw in there to where it will idle where you want it, that the idle mixture screw.

Idles up and down after warm up

THE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW

on the older hondas even the newer ones idle speed is coolant temp controlled.

when the engine idles up the electronic coolant temp sensor is submerged in coolant and reads warm, so the engine computer idles the car down. the coolant level if low than drops from around the coolant temp sensor and it says the engine is cold, so the engine computer idles the car up.

which results in the constant rise and fall in engine rpm.

ADD COOLANT TO THE RADIATOR AND WATCH THE CAR MAGICALLY FIX ITSELF.

Idle goes nuts while warming up and now while driving....any help

check your throttle position sensor. this has nothing to do with your water pump. when the TPS goes out it does what your talking about. it revs up and down all the time. it is fairly easy to replace

Idle

Your Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) has gone bad. Unfortunately the part isn't cheap. Most part store can get this for you. Definitely call around and get prices...shop around!
