Replaced shift cable. Now, when you start car cold it starts right up but sounds like it's hitting on 3 cyl. you run rpm up to 2500-3000 for 20 sec runs good but turn it off becomes very hard to start. Replaced plugs and wires. Model: Chevy Cavalier Z-24 Engine: 2.4 L Trans: Automatic Miles: 160,000

SOURCE: 1994 Chevy Cavalier runs rough with a bunch of codes

24 is speed sensor. Has no bering on a stationary car.
15 is the coolant sensor circuit. (which you already replaced)
66 is AC refridgerant.
19.... i have no idea.
From what you have described, i would almost have to say it's the idle control sensor, or intake manifold vacuum leaks. Make sur everything is tight, and wiggle all the hoses around to make sure none are cracked or loose. Use a length of fuel hose held to your ear, or a stethoscope if you have one, and listen and wiggle hoses with the engine running. If there are no leaks, go for the idle control sensor. If that doesn't do it, it'll be the mass air flow sensor. But usually when they act up, the car will start and die, start and die. Good luck.

SOURCE: 96 Chevy Cavalier running on 2 Cylinders

You said the the 2 cylinders in the middle has no fire. That will be 2 & 3. It has 2 coil packs. One runs 1 & 4 the other runs 2 & 3. Check the coil pack that runs 2 & 3....The firing order is 1,3,4,2... It runs because it hits,miss,hits,miss....just enough to keep it running....

SOURCE: 1996 chevy cavalier. problems starting and running

Actually i doubt the switch is in default here. Especially that if i'm not mistaken the theft light on those was only on the monsoon radio systems and only tells the status of the theft lock on the radio. And if the theft lock light on the radio comes on it's because it thinks it's being unplugged. Taking that in account and reading all the problem you have with the car, i'm strongly leaning toward a grounding problem. So check the negative post on the battery to be sure its not moving or broken in any way, and verify all the grounding wire and straps and replace them if needed. Not many people know this but the ground wires on a car are 100 times more important than the positive wires. Without the grounds, the current has nowhere to go on any components, so that means even the spark plugs stop sparking. If all the grounds are good, just check the battery itself and the alternator just to be sure they are not causing these problems. And if all else fails, then it would be option to change the ignition switch/cylinder. Pretty sure though that you can find one in a scrap yard for less than 150$, those cavaliers are practically raining everywhere in the scrap yards, and you can also use one from a pontiac sunfire which is the same car. Also, you can use most switches from other GMs in the same years, like a grand am, grand prix, lumina, etc. Just make sure that the car you take it from has basically the same equipment more or less than your cavalier so that the zenith has the same number of wires as yours and same positions also.

NEW PLUGS. AND WIRES COLD START, MISSES, INCREASE RPM. MISSES COIL PACK READS 8.9 SET 1 8.1 SET 2 AND SET 3 8.6. ARE THOSE READING BAD ? WHAT SHOULD NORMAL READINGS BE ?

I really like to help but you're not providing much info to go on here:)

Are we talking about a go-kart, Mopar, GM, Ford, 6 Cyl., 8 cyl, 3 cyl., truck, car, motor home??? Are those voltage readings while running or engine on but not running?

A coil requires 9.5 volts to fire efficiently. Is your battery fully charged? Why did you replace the plugs and wires? How does it do when it's warm?

Replaced plugs , wires, distributer cap, rotor, no. 3 cyl. not hitting all the time

The problem could be related to the fuel injector instead of the ignition system.

Code 15 ignation output car runs good when cold gets warm check eng light miss.lacks power not hitting on all cyl. suspect bad ignitor..

Check the EGR valve. Look up on the internet where on your car it is located. Find the vacuum line connected to it. Start the engine cold and as it warms up and starts to miss and stumble, pull off the vacuum line from the EGR. If the car idles fine, replace the EGR. Ignition system problems are more likely to occur at idle or lower rpm. Besides, testing the EGR is free, easy and do fail in high mileage vehicles.
