Check engine light keeps coming on in 03 Audi 1.8 T with 125k miles. computer and mechanical inspections show nothing wrong. Mechanic thinks it must be oil sludge buildup despite the fact we used nothing but synthetic oil and had regular oil changes. Any other ideas or is this car toast?

The next time light is on, turn key slightly back to stop engine, than check error codes Don t turn key all the way off and it will have code still in memory. This should give you the codes. once key is off it resets computer.

SOURCE: Audi 80 oil pressure light

i think from memory that the oil pressure switch is at the back of the cylinder head, if its not there it will be located just above the oil filter, these switches are very cheep to buy and can be bought from any good motor factors. You are right to suspect the switch, its the first thing to eliminate before bogging your self down with more complicated and expensive problems.

SOURCE: Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

SOURCE: 2002 AUDI A4 OIL LIGHT COMES ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

The code system too lean, is caused by the bank 1 02 sensor, as far as the oil light coming on with oil ok,I would say the oil sending unit. Have those checked or replaced. Without testing this and that, it's hard to say what's causing it.

My 2006 VDP had error code and mechanic found nothing wrong. Reset computer and Ive driven 200+ miles and when I try to get inspected it keeps ginVing "not ready" message for two items.

Not ready means that the engine control computer has not completed what is called a drive cycle self test, to do this drive cycle and clear the system asap you need to follow the instructions at the link. Note that during the drive cycle you may get that fault code and check engine light again if the problem you mentioned is still present. How to Perform Basic Drive Cycle

check the injectors for faulty tips. check the cat converter is not failed (blocking the system) check for dragging brakes especially the handbrake. My 03 Audi A4 1.8T check engine light keeps coming on and computer and mechanical inspections reveal nothing. My mechanic who has taken care of the car with regular synthetic oil changes thinks the problem...

if the check engine light is on then there should be a fault code logged but a general obd code reader will not allways work especially with german cars cos they use differant systems/protocols and will only let you read basic obd generic codes to comply with the basic laws so you may have to take to a franchise dealer and pay

Engine light has been turned off repeatedly by local mechanic but keeps coming back on. Car has 142,000 miles and needs to be inspected, but won't pass inspection with engine light on

Check Lights have been on vehicles for 25 to 30 years.
You don't clear or turn off, until you retrieve codes and repair the issues that set the lamp.
Your vehicle isn't being diagnosed and repaired

Check Engine Light came on.....code was O2 sensors.....replaced myself..... mechanic cleared codes.....Said I had to drive at least 100 miles for reset to register inspection with DMV......Drove nearly 550...

were this oem sensor (original) or after market? some times the after mark are not as good. the miles you did are this stop and go (city) or higwh ,there a certain procedure to reset this computers some cars take longer than othersget your mechanic to do it him self with the scanner or just keep driving it until it resets itself or gives a code.

I think my mecahnic, unplugged my sercice engine soon light on my 2004 Mercury Mountaneer instead of fixing it how can I tell. even when I turn the ket to on the light does not come on. Please Help

The check engine light should come on when the key is in the on position. If it does not, you may have blown the bulb or the mechanic may have pulled the bulb out. I would take it to another mechanic to have it check out.

Check Engine light....

there is a possibility of a short to the bulb... he is putting the scanner on it and clearing the code,,,,or he is just undoing the battery cable, making light go off for a bit, and then coming back on. Consider taking it to a different mechanic. but if ur check engine light is on, there is a reason its on, or a short to bulb

ABS light on RV comes on at will.

An intermittent ABS light problem can be as simple as cleaning the harness connector where it attaches to the sensor. I recommend having them inspected cleaned and a light coating of grease applied before reattaching. Depending on where you are located the shop prices can range from as little as $100 up to $300 for this service. Your mechanic is right there probably is nothing wrong with your brakes. If the light comes on and stays on, then I would certainly have it inspected.
