Igniton will not turn

I gave my car to a guy to detail the inside for me. I dont kow what happened but he called me and told me that the key wont turn. I've had the vehicle for a long time, never have i had an issue with the ignition switch. Granted Ive have the key replaced (not original) but have been using it for more than 6 mnths. I tried everything! But the steering wheel is still locked. I've tried putting pressure on the break and wiggling the steering and gently pulling in and out the key and trying to start the vehicle. I even lifted the gear box and exposing the inside to override and place in ''N'' Neutral. I need help ASAP.

The ignition barrels have been known to fail and this is usually the way they end up. Some graphite may help lubricate the lock, but odds are you'll need a new barrel and bolt kit.

I have a 2000 kia sportage and the steering wheel wont budge and the key wont turn. I called kia and they told me to yank the wheel to the right and turn the key at the same time.....nothing. the car is...

well hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is exactly what needs to be done. try turning the key and forcefully moving steering wheel from side to side. if needed get someone to help you moving the wheel but you must be turninf the key at the same time in order to unlock. this is common and happens when you turn the wheel while key is in the off posoition or out of ignition, perhaps grabbing on steering wheel while entering or exiting vehicle. good luck.

Clip or the clamp for my car to go into gear is missing

mcdevito75 here, BEST BET, simply have your car towed to an auto repair shop in your area, even if you had this part can you install it and if you can how are you going to handle the broken key in the ignition switch. Even I don"t know the name of this part fpr the transmission , but it is the locking linkage to the transmission shfter, Once at the shop they will handle this Grommet and the ignition switch.

Ignition

i just had that same prob with mine. My Solution: NEW steering collum / key switch
what was happening was the key would get stuck in the igniton and i had to give it a little tap to get it to relese from the igniton. well, by giving it those taps, it popped a little plastic lever in the collum for the igniton switch. then the car would turn on with the key, but not turn off, i had to do the same thing that you had to do to to turn it off/on.

A steering collum later, and it was fixed
