2001 V6 5 speed mustang, I was driving down the road when the car hesitated about twice, then shut off. I got electrical power, the engine cranks but will not fire, any suggestions on what it might be? I have fuel pressure, I tried to see if I got any spark by putting a screwdriver in the spark plug boot, and cranking it, but no spark, Please any feedback would be great

Try swapping out the power pcm relay. If the relay is good, replace the crankshaft position sensor.

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty

Replace the TFI module. Ford back in 1986 thur 1993 had problems like the one you wrote about. TFI module gets hot and shuts car or truck off then when it cools sometmies starts and sometimes not.

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Ranger cranks but doesn't start periodically

If it has a distributor it is possible that the reluctor / stator has a broken wire. preventing the computer from firing the engine. This can be intermitant and would require the removal of the distributor. If the engine has a crank shaft sensor then this may be a possible place for a broken wire or bad connection. Location for these can be on the harmonic damper at the from=nt of the engine or located at or near the flywheel......

Was looking at posts and other sites. I take it that some relays are even under seats. Anyway, Apparently the ECU relay and the ECC relay are linked. When properly operating the ECC brain sends a signal to the ECC relay and the ground wire is tan/green. The brain can be throwing the signal and the relay terminals are not receiving the signals, so the relays cannot switch.

Although you have replaced some relays, you need to check your plugins for these 2 relays.

Ignition Control Module is bad. When the dielectric grease used to mount them gets hard, they overheat and cause you to shut down. Really easy to install(about 10 mins.). I had this happen on two Fords. If you let the engine sit and cool down, they will fire up and run till that part gets hot, then itll die on ya. Auto zone sells this part for around 35 bucks.
