SOURCE: trunk latch wont hold shut on my 02 cavalier

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

SOURCE: Trunk latch on 2002 Civic EX 4-Door won't close

My girlfriend's 2002 Civic LX 4-door had the same problem. Dvanvught is right; the problem lies with the truck latch cable. If you open the lid and look up at the latch, you will see where the cable comes from the release at the fuel door / trunk release lever inside. When that lever is pulled, it pulls a lever on the latch. The problem is that when you release the lever inside, the cable doesn't retract fully, holding the trunk latch in the open position. If you use your key to manually push the lever on the latch that is attached to the cable toward the cable itself (meaning, push the lever in the direction that will push the wire cable back into its housing), you'll likely find that the trunk lid will then latch. You could replace the cable which would be a bit of a pain considering how it's routed or try to work out a way to put in a return spring to keep pressure on the latch lever, automatically pulling the cable back into the housing.

Good luck!

How to repair pull down motor on 1994 cadillac deville?

Thjese are kind of tricky systems #1 if someone has slammed the trunk closed this can break the motor drive transmission housing it is plastic #2 this system uses a limit switch so as the motor rises from being open it stops at the top and clicks the reversing switch then when it closes it latches against the pressure switch that starts the motion. ALL THESE SWITCHES ARE OBSOLETE only can get used but used on Oldsmobile (land yacht) 98 and cameros, firebirds hatch backs.

There is a little latch right in the middle of your trunk lid. You need to push the little latch and then it will close. That little latch is in lock mode, switch it.

1996 Lincoln Town Car trunk motor won't shut off

under the trunk lip (directly where the latch goes into the lock jaws; remove the carpet so that you can see the side of the trunk latch; on the latch jaws (bottom) is a switch that contacts the latch (top) this switch is broken or, mis-aligned it opens (stops the trunk motor) when the latch contacts it.

Does this car has power trunk?

If you mean automatic closing check at the latch area inside trunk and look for wiring going to a motor that would pull the trunk lid down when latched.I am almost sure only the 98 series had auto close function.
