Bad vibration engine trans under load

I have a 96 geo metro that has a bad vibration when the clutch is engaged in any gear at the upper rpm range. Going down the interstate it gets bad at 55-60 mph but completely quits when I push the clutch in. It vibrates so bad it has cracked my battery at the terminals. I had one motor mount replaced and the others checked and my mechanic feels they are not the problem. I had the trans replaced over a year ago with a new clutch This problem started and got worse very quickly. I first noticed the gear shifter vibrating which was a lillte annoying but no vibration could be felt in the clutch pedal. In a day or so vibration was bad in the clutch pedal and I can feel it in the whole front of the car. There is no vibration in the motor only in gear driving. It is 1.0 3 cyl.5spd it's the same problem, but a different car.

Seems your problem is within your clutch, defective part, usually a defective release bearing will cause gear shifter and pedal vibration but not as bad as yours, but by pressing on clutch pedal vibration stops, point to clutch!

98 Geo metrohard to shift into any gear

I assume it is a standard shift transmission? I would see if there is any adjustment on the clutch cable. If the cable is already as tight as it can be adjusted, it's probably time for a new clutch.

Is it normal for a 96 geo lsi when its at 60 for the rpm to be at 3.5?

It's perfectly normal, the engine you got in that car is very small and it means you have less gear ratios, once on the top gear the car will speed up by staying on that gear and rev'ing up the engine.

1996 Geo Metro Clutch won't disengage

Hi,

In all likelihood two (2) possibilities:
  • defective clutch cable (most likely); and/or
  • defective clutch fork (least likely).
Should it be the cable, this might be of help. It is turns out to be the fork, you might need the services of a qualified professional or a dealership.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

1995 geo metro 3cylinder 5 speed

sounds to me that the syncros in the trans are worn out. when driving and shifting try to vary the rpms while trying to shift . try to shift it like a semi truck just have to match the engine rpms to the trans input shaft rpm. this is not a cheap fix rebuilt trans or install new syncros in your trans requires the whole trans to be dissambled.
good luck

Geo metro transmission slips and will not down shift into passing gear with pedle pressed to the floor

Auto Trans I had to replace solenoid in transmission there are two of them when you drop the pan. After testing with a 12 volt battery one was bad replaced and transmission works fine. Mine was a 1996, cost about $90 for solenoid.
