Possible shift solenoid problem . Do you have any idea how the electronic shift control works ? Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop. Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

You will have to have the solenoid body replaced in the tranny and have the PCM reprogrammed.

You will first need to remove the plastic piece behind the inner door handle that you use to pull the door shut with and there should be a 10mm bolt inside there behind the insulation. The plastic cover behind the inner door lever handle will need to come out. It's only in with clips. Remove the reflective lens on the end of the panel and you will see a phillips head screw inside. It's a long screw so be ready for many turns to get it out. Next, your power window controls will need to come out and they are only snapped into place but be careful with them because plastic prongs can be broken off if not pried out in the right direction. The same goes for the door lock switch. Unplug both once out. You will also see a triangle plastic piece (can break easily) towards the front top side of the panel. Make sure it clears it's way out when removing the panel. The rest of the panel is held up with downward facing plastic clips. Sounds hard but really it's all pretty simple. Study the back of the panel before putting it back on and take your time.

You mean the serpentine belt? It should have nothing to do with how the trans shifts-but shut off the air ride switch, jack the car up high on the driver side and look under the center of the car at the trans-there is a 'MLPS' (aka 'neutral safety switch, about $40) that are known to go bad-quite possibly your exact problem.

I have a 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII, will not shift out of park!

Hello Sparky.

There is a solenoid that unlocks the shifter when the brakes are applied.
Check for brake light operation. If no brake lamps, check the brake lamp fuse in the instrument panel fuse box. It is fuse number 11 and is a 10 amp fuse.
If blown you will have a short in the system and it will need to be traced and repaired.
If you need more help with this issue please ask me here.

1998 Mark VIII gear shift lever won't go into gear.

What have you checked so far? Are you stepping on the brake pedal first before you try to shift into a gear selection? Are the rear brake-lights working?

Transmission shifts hard from first gear to second gear all other gears shifts ok. [email protected]

Well, if you don't have a shift kit, then this is a sign of damage. Have your local shop check it and see if it can be adjusted.

I have a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. The button that you have to push in on the gear shift lever is frozen and we can't get it out of park. Need ideas on what causes this. Hate to take it into a dealer and pay...

make sure brake lights work, if they dont the switch may be bad, not allowing you to pull out of park. check fuses also. if the seat motor runs, check if the cable has come loose.

I have a Lincoln Mark VII Locked in Park won't start

There may be a wire loose. Lie on the driver floorboard with a flashlight shining up into the dash panel. Look up above the brake pedal. Tighten any loose connections you see. Good luck.

My 1997 Lincoln Mark 8 will not shift into gear.

it may be a shifter linkage issue. There is an interlock to prevent the car from bouncing out of park into reverse and if the linkage is not correctly adjusted, then it locks up.
