1990 Honda Prelude Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 14, 2013

I have a 91 prelude (manual transmission). It seems as if the breaks locked up and then all of a sudden it shut off while driving. now it will not start. I can turn the key and all the interior lights and heater all come on but when I try pushing in the clutch to start the car all the way it does nothing as if im not pushing in clutch...even while pushing in brake at the same time. The brake will not push down very far at all though. I can still go through all the gears with the shifter. I have noticed lately that my e brake has been sticking if I use it too..When I try to start it, its as if I am not even pushing the clutch where it just does nothing at all. Any ideas? Im guessing this might be a combo of a couple issues.

Coil , rotor, cap, wires and spark plugs if that does not help you than your clutch needs to be replaced !!

SOURCE: 1992 Honda Prelude Clutch

Either your master or slave cylinder is leaking (if hydraulic) Replace leaking cylinder with repair kit and blead the system. More serious it could be a problem on the clutch assembly.

SOURCE: 93 honda prelude dohc vtec engine will not can be push started

Sounds like you accidently pulled the thin wire from you starter motor. Look at the connections at the end of the solenoid, mounted on starter motor. The thick red wire is Battery + next to that connection is a smaller male push- on terminal, locate loose wire (thin) in the same area and reconnect to male push-on terminal on solenoid or check if earth cable between body/battery to engine wasnt removed in the process. Also some vehicles you have to engage the clutch before starting, check for a switch located on clutch pedal where master cylinder connects to clutch pedal (Is clutch switch mounted and wiring connected?)

SOURCE: manual transmission shifter will not engage

Sounds to me that the shifter broke, i believe the shifter has a ball end that slips into a pocket in trans. that moves for gear selection and that ball brook off end of shifter. if its got a linkage set up most likely samething either shifting arms came off or shifter broke where linkage rods connect.

I put my 1989 Honda Prelude engine (auto) into a 1988 shell with manual transmission, and now my revs stay high only when driving and changing gears. Was wondering if it is a vacuum hose issue and how

may need to swap the computer also.. manual computer is different..but yes.. be looking into any vacuum leaks..block off any open ports you find..

My seatbelts feed out properly and retract

There is a ball inside that when you brake moves and locks the seat belt. Your best bet is to drive and see if it locks when you brake hard. If not replace it. Some cars wont lock when you pull on them only when inertia takes over do they lock.

Tiptronic engage/disengage when hot

You clutch packs have worn out and the not shifting properly when hot confirms this, you may check transmission line pressure, hopefully I am wrong but most likely you need a total transmission rebuild. and a front wheel drive automatic is the most expensive rebuild out there.

Engine dies

this sounds like a fuel pump issue. It could be the pump, or it could be the Master Relay.

1991 prelude drivetrain problem

Wow, that's weird! If the speedometer is moving, but you aren't, then yes, something in the axle is not connected to the wheel. Were there any weird noises or symptoms before this happened? Either the cv joint is completely shot (u should have heard noise when turning a long time before this) or the spline could be stripped, but that is something I haven't heard of. If the clutch was shot, the engine would rev, but speedo is connected to transmission, so the speedo would not work if the clutch didn't. Let me know if anything was going on before this happened, I have a 91 Prelude (2nd since 1994, love it). countrycurt0
