2005 Cadillac STS door problem... Front driver door wont open from outside, seems as if the electronic system isnt responding to release latch when handle is pulled? Anyone have similar problem? All other doors work fine.
I had exact same problem on three occations, when the car wouldn't respond to ether keyless or door handles. First time that happened, I opened the driver's door with the key and alarm went off. On second occation, I was locked out with two remotes for 20 minutes, the key would not turn, I thought the lock might be freezing, so I took the key out of the lock and voila! the unlock button on remote worked! Last time I parked my car for 30 minutes and was locked out again. Only trunk would open (without using the remote key). Tried to open driver's door with the key, and the key would rotate freely in any direction without doing anything. Then again, after all that, the unlock button on remote unlocked the door. I think it all boils down to '05 STS poor ability to detect key fobs. And then you need to wait for a while for STS to reset itsels after few unsuccessfull attempts. The dealership coud not diagnose or to cure the problem. And it only happens every once in a while.

My driver door does not respond to the keyless automatic unlock feature. The passenger door works fine! The dealer says it's the driver door latch which has been on nationwide backorder for over 5 weeks! Until the part comes in, I have to use the key to open the door.My driver door does not respond to the keyless automatic unlock feature. The passenger door works fine! Re: 2005 Cadillac STS door problem... Front driver door...
There is NOT a mechanical connection to the outside door handles on the front doors. There is an electronic "door popping solenoid" This is a electronic problem. I think there was a recall on this.
Re: 2005 Cadillac STS door problem... Front driver door...
This "SOUNDS" more like a Mechanical Problem, Although Electronics Lock & Unlock there still are Different Linkages that do the Dirty work such as open doors and hood and CONNECTED to the Electronics Unlock & Lock Doors. In the doors there are Various Linkages that are attached to the Inside and Outside Handles, they go back to the Main LOCK Mechenism to actuate the Latch for opening the door, Seems as it iether its Not Unlocking far enough for outside to open OR The LINKAGE from HANDLE to Latch May have Come Off, as they are Held on only by PLASTIC CLIPS Door Panel Must COME OFF to SEE this.

that is the door lock actuator. must have a bad connection at actuator or a short in wiring to it that the moister helps the voltage move through the circuit.
power seat motor is probably bad it is a 2006 we are talking about cadillac isnt that good lol i wish car companies made parts that lasted forever but they dont maybe in the future......
Nope - nothing to do with any of that - mine does it periodically - front door, back doors --- it;s the computer that's running it all. Ive had an STS and a late shape CTS- - beautiful cars but ***** reliability. shame. Anyone want a RHD 3.6??
Hello: On the rear bumper, driver side lower portion you will see a square which you can flip open with the key you have. Once open you will see a lock cylinder, insert the key and turn. That will open the trunk. Inside the trunk you will see a handle, pull it and it will open the drivers door. That should do it.
Would like the solution as well. Dealer says it has to be drilled out.
Grabbing the squarish "loop" under the handle down and away using needle nose pliers doesn't unlock the door
Sounds like its the bar that goes from the latch in the side of the door up to the handle. It will need to be reattached. If that dosent seem to be the problem you may want to replace handle and all bars in the door with parts from your local junkyard.

Power Door Lock Operation (Front Doors)
The front doors do not have traditional door lock actuators. They have electronically controlled door latches that will operate depending on the status of the door lock system. This status is determined by the front door modules and the last known state of the lock system. If the last known state is LOCK, the latches will not release when the door handles are operated. If the last known state is UNLOCK, the latches will release when the door handles are operated. The front doors are also equipped with red door lock status indicators. The front door modules will supply power and ground to the indicators to illuminate them when the lock system is in a virtual state of lock. The indicators will not continuously illuminate when the vehicle is locked. They will illuminate for approximately 5 seconds after a lock switch activation or after a door handle has been operated and the front door modules are in a virtual state of lock. For further information on the front door latches, refer to Power Door Latch Description and Operation .
I would assume they check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ?
DTC B3062 Front Door Key Lock Switch Circuit
• DTC B3067 Front Door Key Unlock Switch Circuit
DTC B3849 Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit
The left front exterior door handle and right front exterior door handle switch signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM) when an exterior door handle switch is activated. These inputs allow the door module to detect a door open request. The door modules provide voltage to the door handle switches. If the door module detects that a ground is applied for greater than 30 seconds continuously, a DTC is set and the door module will ignore the door handle switch input.
