First thing to do is change oil and filter. Hopefully it has not done this long and has hard faced the shims. Good luck and have a good day.

Did not mean to offend u to the point of getting a poor mark. There are only a few things that will make Hydraulic valves tap. The first is lack of oil pumping up the lifters, either weak oil pump or poor filter. The other thing is usually it has been over revved and slightly bent some valves. Good luck and Sorry if you don't like the answers.

Slight tapping noise from engine when accelerating when engine is warm.Started about 3 days ago but hasnt got any worse.Doesnt do it when cold.

tap usually associated with lifters when vehicle warms up oil thins out and a bad or worn lifter will make a tapping noise --other oil level low --oil needs changing --low level will starve rockers/push rods/and lifters which will also cause tap ---damaged /dirty{sludge oil can cause same problems

Valve tap cause

Most engines now use hydraulic lifters and they can leak a little, this causes space between then lifter and the push rod. This results in a tapping noise that goes away when they get warm or fill back up.

I have a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 8 cylinder engine and it just started making a tapping noise when it's running. The oil hasn't been changed in awhile. Could this make a difference or any other...

yes it most certainly can, thick oil can block hydrolic lifters and make tappets become loose and even fail. that is a good start point because the next is a worn cam shaft

Can you adjust valve clearance on kia optima 2.0 cdti

Depends on the year and engine. The older engines have hydrolic lifters. The newer engines 06 and up with CVVT have solid lifters so you would have to pull the valve covers and use a feeler gauge to measure clearances and replace the tappets accordingly.

Excessive noise from camshaft after head reconditioning and correct adjustment both standard setting and allowing for head being shaved - to no effect on a daihatsu charade 1991 G100

if its upper noise eg folowers and lifters if they are hydrolic lifters where these replaced are the cams ok if they are manually ajustable tappets these can be ajusted unless the following are goosed again the cams are pitted or mishapen will need new cam shaft the lifter rods are worn or week valve springs
but if they are hydrolic will have to be replaced inc cam shaft hope this makes sence ivan

Valve setting cougar 1989 3.8 v6 how to do it

Hi Bill, I'm fairly sure your vehicle has hydrolic tappets. If they are noisy I advise replacing the lifter assemblies. The lifters ride on top of the camshaft which is usually fitted inside the engine block. Depending on the engine you may be able to remove the lifters with a stiff wire onto which a very small hook has been fashioned at its end. Remove the rocker shaft assembly and then the push rods. make sure the wire is the correct length to reach the lifters and engage the hook into the clips on top of the lifters and gently pull them out. Before fitting the new lifters, fill a container with a very thin lubricating oil or diesel, submerge the lifters in the oil and with a suitable tool which will not damage the surface where the push rods rest, pump them until all signs of air are evacuated from each. Fit the new units into the engine and refit the rocker shaft assembly. Make the first adjustment of the valves using 0.30mm feeler gauge. If possible get a third tappet cover and cut off the top by removing enough material to allow the use of the tools required to carry out final adjustments. Start the engine and have it running at idle speed. the until the hydrolic followers become fully charged. the sound you should hear is a clacking sound. Tighten further until the sound disappears and then a further half turn and then tighten the locking nut. Some vehicles are fitted with single self locking nuts, which should be replaced with new. Once the engine is running as it should replace the tappet covers and all the other stuff, put your feet up, give yourself a pat on the back or get someone else to that for you and you should be done. Regards John

Those model lifters are quite notorious for clogging up with hardened oil as they ran a bit hot... my suggestion would be to service all your lifters or replace them up to you and make sure all clearances are correct at tappets and valves :)
Good Luck :)

ur car uses hydrolic lifters instead of tappets but they sound the same when faulty. most likely a 'sticky' lifter. very expensive to change.

My valves are making a tapping noise do i need to adj. valves

Before adjusting the valves, 1. check the oil level 2. use an engine cleaner that you add to the oil (berryman's or equivalent) and run thru the engine for 30 minutes 3. change oil and filter 4 run and check for tappet noise. This may improve things without opening things up.
