I'm not familiar with Chevrolet vehicles, being from Europe and all, but most engines today have none adjustable tappets. From what limited knowledge I have on cars in general, most cars have there tappets set according to timings and if there is wear on the timing chain (if it has one) then you would realistically be looking to change that, along with any guides and tensioner's. This is also the same for timing belts too. You may also find abnormal wear on the lifters. 100,000 miles is generally considered the point upon which a timing system needs an overhaul.
If you could post more information on what is wrong with the vehicle and its symptoms, we may be able to help further.
There's NO code for noisy lifters. Depending on miles and previous maintenance (oil changes, etc) your lofters are probably worn. They need to be replaced and you might have an oil pressure test done to make sure there's is adequate oil pressure.
disconnect neg battery lead, from underneath the steering wheel remove 2 torque screws and carefully remove airbag unit disconnect the 2 wires underneath it first, remove bottom steering column cover, next remove keys and allow steering lock to engage with the road wheels pointing straight ahead remove wheel centre stud, wriggle bump shake steering wheel till it slips of splines disconnect wires from underneath and remove wheel, installation is reverse, make sure you position steering wheel straight ahead, dont reconnect battery till airbag unit is reinstalled or you will get a warning light illuminating.
could be the valves not seating properly or the hydraulic tappets are gummed up.holding the valves open,.Do a compression check first,if ok then start looking at plug leads or coil pack
Hi,
I know people complain only when fuel levels skyrocket(increase). You should be happy your fuel consumption has plummeted (reduced). However, for BMWs it is usually advisable you change the set. If a pully is bad, it usually affects other parts. Your BMW is rather old...these problems usually come with aging BMWs which usually have a lifespan.
Do you mean the "Timing Belt"? There is NO Cam belt.. .there is, however, a "Cam Timing Chain"... connects the Intake & Exhaust cams together under the cam cover (valve cover). Unless you actually INSPECT the Timing Belt, no one can know... the noise might be anything! Valve tappets, timing belt Idler pully, tensioner pully, water pump bearing, you name it. Solution: Take vehicle into Hyundai Service Center - pay the diagnostic fee - they will give you an estimate of repairs (if needed) (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.). This way you'll know if there's actually a problem and what it is, as well as what's required to fix it... OR that there's nothing at all wrong.
there is no tappet settings, they have hydraulic lifters.
if tapping its because of lack of oil changes.
the lifters are coked up and no oil fetting in.
try engine flush and new oil with hydraulic lifter additive.
if not a set of lifters.
i have got a complete head i can knick the lifters out of for £40 and the set is yours.
