I have a 2006 G35 Coupe with the same problem. Experienced the problem earlier (neither trunk release would work) until I inserted the key and turned on Accessories or started the car.
Is the trunk actuator in the lid or the body? It does not sound like a broken wire to me (and where is this common wire break occur?)

Re: trun will not open on my 2004 infiniti g35 coupe
The wires that go from the body to the trunk lid are broken, the wires are located inside the rubber boot that connects between trunk and the car. very common problem.

Your issue is probably the valet switch. It's located in your glovebox. It's a common problem on the Infiniti. When the switch is bad you can unlock your doors but you can't open your trunk. It's a fairly inexpensive part, but I'm not sure about labor costs.
i dont know for sure, but check glove box, behind both front doors but on the dash or sides of the dash, under both sides of the dash, under the hood under the back seats, and inside the trunk panels. those are all the places ive seen fuses located
I had this problem as well.
The wiring harness in the trunk is a bit short and some of the wires fray. when this happens, the car doesn't recognise that the fob is close by so it fails to open.
Just pull back the boot near the trunk hinge on the passanger side and look for frayed wires.
on the left side of the steering wheel. if you reach bellow in plain sight. there should be a few control switches. if i remember correctly there is there. there is one that says VTC. and to the left of the button. there is a switch. that is the trunk popper switch. slide the button down and it will open the trunk.
Hi there,
Have you looked in the trunk on the side that the gas tank is on? There may be a fuel release switch. Couple of other things to try is to unlock all your doors from the inside of your car and/ or try pushing in and out on the gas door over and over until, hopefully, it triggers the device. I hope that will help you. I will keep trying to find the answer. Let me know. Have a great night.~MWD
tail light bulbs are replaced by removing the tail light housings. The housings are accessed by removing the nuts, the nuts are secured behind the inner trunk liner inside the trunk. Remove fasteners holding liner in place, remove 3 nuts for each housing(i believe it's 3 nuts if my memory serves me right), remove housing and replace bulbs
IF you pop your truck remove the plastic insert that hold in the trunks carpet on the right side you see a little box that has a push pull button on it. This controls your release for your fuel tank door. PLay with it you will figure it out....
