It just started doing this the last month. I would stop at a stop light and then it would stall out. I had to crank it for about 8 to 10 seconds to start it back up. Then the EPC light would come back on. The car when idling at a light would almost shake the car. Hopefully you can help me out.
SOURCE: rough idle stalls at low rpm's
hello first check your idle with the car running foot on brake see were your rpm reading is if your below 500rpm check your label underhood for your curb idle setting second see if theres a adjustment screw you can increase were your gas cable lever rest against your set screw underhood if you feel confident enough remove your iac motor idle air control valve if the bore were the end of the pintle extracts out to close has varnish builup our carbon it will stick creating vacuum leak type senario causing stalling rough idle sometimes even no start conditions good luck

it could be your mass air flow sensor? try checking that

check your transmission fluid, the motor will stall when fluid is low

I had this same problem on my 2001 Beetle. The EPC light refers to the Electronic Pedal Control that disengages the shift lock when you depress the brake. On the beetle there was a recall on this part for replacement and it is recommended that you take it to a dealer for free replacement. If you cannot get to a dealer, the part is about $10 - $20 at pep boys (or any other parts store).
The trick to getting the EPC to engage correctly if you cannot get the car going is to go under the drivers side in front the brake pedal arm where the sensor is located (this is a plastic or metal plunger that the pedal rests against and is easy to spot) and depress the brake with one hand and the sensor with the other and release quickly. It may take a few times, but this should disengage the EPC lock. You should hear an audible "thunk" which will indicate that it worked.

EPC= electronic pedal control it is a sensor and is located in front of the brake pedal . Depress brake with one hand ,the sensor with the other and release fast. this should disengauge the EPC lock listen for a thunk made by the EPC lock disengaging.
Go to auto zone. They will use a code reader to help you find exact component or components having errors. If its not the EPC.
it sounds like your mass air sensor or the throttle control sensor may be bad. Your gas and air may not be mixing properly thus causing your car to sputter, hesitate, and idle rough. It could be some other thinks like a bad plug or wire etc. Good Luck hope this helps. Please rate me if this helps thank you.

Had the same problem. The problem was with the engine or throttle sensors. Will need to be replaced as soon as possible.
is this an Audi or a Volks? whichever anyway the usual culprit is the "throttle position sensor" or less likely a "don't laugh" blown brake light globe.
Sparky's caught out with this will understand Lol.
