Wheel alignment for automobile

What is the wheel alignment for the 1999 Rover Mini, sportspac.

  • Anonymous Apr 03, 2009

Sorry my question was poorly worded. First time on site. What I wanted to know was the porper toe-in setting for a 1990 mini sportpac. The info in the shop manual only goes to 1996.

Hello. Wheel alignment is the adjustment of the front and rear wheels so that they are correctly inline with each other and pointing straight forward. If they point to the left or right the car will pull to that side of the road while being driven. The front wheels also need to be adjusted to ensure they are not too far forward and riding on the back of the tire, or not too far back and riding on the front of the tire. Lastly, all tires need to be checked to ensure they are not leaning too far in or out of their wheelwell, causing the tires to become prematurely bald. For most vehicles it can cost you $40-$120 depending where its done, plus any shim kits needed to adjust the wheel allignment back to factory specs. Most shops provide 2 or 4 wheel alignment, so always ensure that they perform a 4 wheel alignment. Always ask for the alignment test reports for both before and after the work is performed so you can see for yourself which were out of alignment. Pot holes, curb-hopping, railroad/railway tracks, etc. play a huge part in your vehicle alignment going bad. 4 tires on some cars can cost you $500-1600 to replace, but an alignment check every 2-4 years will only cost you a very small amount, saving you time and money.

My 1999 land-rover discovery is vibrating at 60-80,had the tyres checked all good, any thoughts ?

Depending on the vibration the speed you mention is when drive shaft vibrations are evident. Check all "U" joints for wear, check slip joints for wear especially the front shaft.Check wheel alignment for castor problems and check the steering shocky ( if fitted)

How do I simple check my 2009 MINI Cooper S's wheel alignment?

all you can do is check the toe but I would recommend taking it to a good front end shop to have all the steering components checked first because if you have any loose parts an alignment isnt going to do you much good.!!!

My 1999 Rav 4 is normally a front wheel drive but can switch to 4 wheel drive. Do I need alignment in all 4 wheels or just the front?

Most alignment shops these days use a 4 wheel system,so they see all 4 wheels anyway,I would try to tell the shop if the rear is ok ,just do the front.
That 2 wheel 4 wheel price is a moneymaker
So hard to find an honest shop.

Front wheel alignment

you need to let an alignment shop handle it. The vehicle has to be perfectly level front to rear and side to side, if this is not correct the alignment will not be accurate.

Steering wheel alignment

Hi

Expect Kwik Fit have adjusted the tracking / wheel alignment at some time, and adjusted one track rod more than the other. ?

Count the threads showing ! ...I expect this will become apparent.

You need to have the tracking / alignment rechecked with track rods even lengths both sides.

Then if you road test and find the steering wheel out of alignment, remove steering wheel, and move round the correct position on the steering column splines.

Hope this is of help.

Good Luck !

John.

The steering has gone off on my mini cooper s

Are you saying the car doesn't drive straight when the wheel is straight?

If so than this is due to a bad alignment. Wheel alignment can go bad over time or from hitting a big pothole. You should do a wheel alignment about once a year. This will insure proper tyre wear and safety. Wheel alignment can be made at almost every car service shop.

Hope this helps
