Not always the fob. Check your door lock motor. These sometimes cause many bottles of whiskey.

It may be set in the main menu to lock only by the fob. I know on GMC's there are about 7 different locking options. I'm not a specialist in Land Rovers but the cheapest way out is to check all your options on the dash/steering wheel buttons.

SOURCE: central locking

turn key twice when opening, ie turn right. once drivers door will unlock, turn twice passengers doors will unlock, and locking is turn anti clock wise once will lock all doors, turn twice will set door dead locks.dead locks will stop openand lock internal button working and handle from opening door. the same actions can be applied to the remote one press drivers door, two press passenger doors, press and hold unlock button for 5 seconds and rear window will open.

SOURCE: Passenger door will not lock

i would put my money on the solenoid inside the door needs replacement. it does the physical work of locking and unlocking, if all the others are working then that is most likely the culprit.

SOURCE: central locking not working on drivers and passenger door

I am having a similar problem with left rear door. I replaced the lock actuator, but it was still not working properly. The trick is getting the door handle in the right spot. The door handle is attached by a cable, and over time the cable is stretched. I used a rubber stopper behind the handle to get it into the exact right position and it worked perfectly.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. Key fob only works if the ignition switch is in the On position. How to troubleshoot and fix.

The key fob does two things quite separately. It open and closes the doors. It also provides the correct security credentials to the vehicle immobilizer. At first is sounded like whomever programmed it only did half the job. It may also be that the internal battery is low. It is a complex error with the vehicle computer systems on a key fob with unknown history and issues.

Or go into a place that does car alarms and radios. They will have the necessary test equipment and scan tool computers.

Generally, I warn against bypassing immobilizers. You need the key fob for the doors though. The door fob is part of the security system.

How to reset immobilizer without key. My door locks were changed by previous owner and it works great in ignition but not door locks. Can I replace dead battery and the immobilizer relay?

The door locks are electronically operated by the key fob communicating to the ECM or BCM. The Immobilizer works by the transponder in the key communicating to the receiver near the ignition lock, and communicating to the ECM to allow all the items needed to start the vehicle.

It sounds like you just need an auto-electrician or the dealership to reprogram everything.

1998 Australian Hyundai Sonata GLE Classique key fob will not turn off immobilizer. Have replaced batteries. Can a new remote be coded/programmed or will I have to buy a new ecu. Please help.

You will not have to buy a new ECU. Key fobs are programmable. Try inserting the key in the drivers door and lock/unlock to see if security resets. Also try disconnecting battery and reconnecting

I had to use my emergency key access code to get into my discovery 2. how do i reset the immobiliser on the car?

The immobilizer systems on these vehicles can only be accessed and programmed by a dealer or a shop with a T4 or Autologic scantool system. Typically, replacing batteries in a fob should not present any new issues. Try manually locking the vehicle with the key. One turn to the right with the key in the driver door should lock the whole vehicle, activate the alarm which is indicated by one horn beep, a flash of the parking lights & a rapid flashing of the red light on the dash. After less than a minute, the red light should go to a slower flash and the vehicle is now armed. By placing the key back in the drivers door, one turn to the left should de-activate the alarm and a second turn should un-lock the rest of the vehicle and it should start. If this does not work then the key may not be communicating with the vehicle and may need to be re-programmed. Make sure the batteries in the fob are correct, installed correctly and of good quality. If you do need to have the key re-programmed, make sure you have all the keys so that they can all be done at the same time. Most local shops do not have the capability to access the immobilization systems on these vehicles.

Immobilized car

security system has locked the vehicle. it thinks it is being stolen. lock all doors , unlock drivers door with key ( not the fob) crank the car with door shut with the key.
if it doesnt work try locking doors leave car unattended for 30 min try again. if that doesnt work connect a battery charger to the battery . leave key in the run ( not start) position for 30 mins and try to start it then. if that is unsucessful tow it to dealer
