Some errors will come right back. Some may stay out for a while. I knew someone that got his check engine light cleared right before testing. It would come back about a week later. Don't know what it was.
It all depends on why your light is on. Most National part store chains offer free scanning to tell you what codes are stored and setting your light on. Sometimes clearing the codes will keep the light off long enough to pass the inspection, but either way you will know where the problem lies and will be able to get it fixed so you will not have to worry about it.
when check light is on the comp goes into limp mode (basicly off),car runs better and gets better gas milage when check light is off. If light is flashing, it is seriouse and may result in costly damage if not repaired asap
You can't. These are codes related to the o2 sensor and the evap circuit, and will be checked every time. You can try clearing the codes, but I suspect they will come right back. Time for a repair.
As for your codes p1131 and 1151: Ford - Lack Of Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 Switches - Sensor Indicates Lean
Last week I had the very same catalyst, evap and ECG codes come up on my 1999 Mercury Mystique which is like a Ford Taurus. A friend was able to find a hole or leak in the hose connected, replaced it and it runs fine. I havent run it a full and straight 50 miles yet to clear the check engine light but that repair alone changed the entire way the car was poorly driving. Im sure that hasnt fixed all the probs but thats a good starting point.
OBD2 works for getting codes causing check engine light.
Cannot communicate to NYS DMV to receive inspection.
It will pass inspection. No check engine lights or codes. Problem is communication with inspection machine.
A code P0431 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: * The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly * An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly * There is an exhaust leak
Possible Solutions: * Inspect for exhaust leaks. Next step is to measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 2. In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it. * One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.
Any code that puts on the check engine light is a failure for inspection. Your mechanic has given you bad information. What you need to do is fix the code causing problem then drive vehicle for a few days to reset all inspection monitors. You will not pass inspection with a check engine light on unfortunately. Hope this helps.
