I thought the alternator was bad cause bat light came on. I tested the alternator by disconnecting hot lead on bat car died so I switched alternator bought new bat and same thing what could it be.
Have you checked the alternator fuse? The regulator needs power from the fuse to turn on the alternator. The old alternator could have blown the fuse.
What was the amps of the fuse you checked?
There should also be a bolted in 75 or 80 amp alternator fuse. But just take a test light and make sure you have power at the output terminal of the alternator and power at the plug connector of the alternator. Also the Battery light should go out when you unplug the alternator plug, this will test the light circuit.

The alternator fuse is fine how do I check the regulator?
the only fuse I could find for the alt. was a 15 amp and it is also the fuse for the fuel pump. I figure that there is another larger one but I don't know which one it is I do not have the fuse diagram or the owners manual. Is there some sort of relay switch or something of that nature I could check as well
