when accelerating there is a clicking or tapping sound. sound reduced when oil was added but still can be heard. Car runs great otherwise and timing belt has been changed.

There is no room for error...... Zero clearance. If off one tooth it can and will bend valves. if you are one that just feels the need to get alittle dirty or just can't pay for the service, then get out your Haynes out and turn to .....Tune up, and look at replacing timming belt. Get a cam gear tool that locks them into place so as that they will not move when u have them lined up. make sure they are lined up with marks as said in book. then make sure crank as well as all marks are lined up acordingly. make sure belt marks are lined up with everything. i would reccomend using a volvo belt though cause it will have all the marks on it.However other company's make good quality belts also at a fraction of the price. So it is really up to you.
Good thing when doing timming belt is to also change out your timming belt tensioner. YES do this it will save you a engine in the long run. it is a moving part that will go bad, it will freeze up and snap timming belt. rip out teeth in thebelt and bend valves. So as a gen rule...When you change timming belt, Change belt tensioner at same time since you cant just change tensioner without changing or getting timming belt off. Remember to use your HAYNES. It is your friend and will save you money in the long run. Good luck... Hope this helps you.

They have timing belt kits which include a new water pump and tensioner pulley for about $180 at Advanced and Auto zone! Not a bad deal, my waterpump froze up and took out the timing belt and tensioner pulley...yep, it was'nt pretty!!

IS A 2001 VOLVO S80 2.4 MOTOR A NON INTERFERANCE MOTOR

The S60 model has a 2.4 five cylinder engine. That engine is not an interference engine.
The S80 uses a 6 cylinder 2.8 or 2.9 engine if it is sold in the US.

When should you change cam belt on volvo s60

Well, most belt companies and aftermarket folks recommend 60,000 to 80,000 miles on a timing belt. You have an interference engine which means if the belt breaks while the engine is running it could damage the valves and pistons. So I would recommend doing it soon.

My timing belt broke and I have purchased a new one; however, I need to know how to set the correct timing for a 2001 Volvo S60 witha 2.4L engine?

you need a service manual, if you don't have one i fear that you maybe in over your head-either timing belts or chians there are always timing marks which indicate cylinder id and tdc, basically top dead center of cylinder #1 matched to camshaft position of intake and exhaust valves inclosed position (cam lobes off valves and valve springs relaxed to full height-not compressed as that indicates valves are still open or in overlap-you must know you four strokes and consider which stroke will be required) anyways if your belt broke you may have larger problems than lacking a service manual as most engines today are interferance which means that it the valve timing is incorrect you could be tagging valves against the pistons, and if your belt broke you may have already done so-check your valves as they maybe bent and in this case you require a head job as well.

How to know if timing belt on volvo t6 needs to be replaced if dealer stamps and bills don't show it. The 105 page was stamped.

The timing belt should have been replaced at the 105K service. Someone should look at the timing belt to determine the condition. However, if you have any doubts, you should replace it to be on the safe side. Also replace the mechanical tensioner.

Can't start 2001 volvo S60 after sitting for 18 months

Not an expert on this, but I would change the oil and oil filter and you might want to check all belts/hoses under the hood for cracking and replace as necessary. It's likely you'll have to do that after a car sitting idle so long. Don't know if spark plugs should be replaced after not firing for that long, but maybe you want to take a look at those as well.

It's not that bad at all. After you remove the three bolts for the power steering pump and the two bolts for the drive belt tensioner it is sitting right in front of you.
