The Jetta vr6 has a timing chain. These don't have to be replaced unless the gear is worn. When worn they will jump timing by a tooth or two. This will cause the engine to run rough. Most VW are interferance motors. That would mean the pistons could have hit some valves. I would stay away.
Also have you seen the motor? I may be off but I thought the VR6's had a chain. Even if, its still an interfernce motor.
After ten years your are sure to need a new suspension. The way you cantell the shocks are gone is you'll see signs of fluid leaking from the inside of the top onto the outsides of the inner bottom. A couple of jacks and the right wrenches will be pretty easy for even a novice mechanic. Two to four hours your done, it will also increarse the cars hoursepower and preformance.
well learn how to time engine with no timing marks, its easy .look on end of cams for a slot or some sort of mark on the cam bearings caps .If you cant find anything then no 1 piston at the top and both valves closed with cam lobes in the air so to speak.dont forget to turn crank twice with a rachet before you evan think of trying to start engine.
if is 2000 or upper the sensor ir la T/B assy it self
becuase they up grade the sistem with a electronic T/B controler so you have to replace T/B assy olso. because is a new assy you need to relearn the adle speed that part will belong to the dealership
1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.
