2000 VW Jetta TDI interior lights wont go off

I have a 2000 VW Jetta TDI and my problem is the interior lights will not go off when I shut the door. If you wait ten seconds or so they will flash for like a tenth of a second then come back on. The door is is definetly shut because the chimes stop ringing for the lights on and key in ignition. Any Ideas?

My 2000 jetta gls interior lights stay on and then blink on and off. I went throghu so many fuses. (Fuse 14). I went ahead and removed the driver side lock system and resolder the pins as I have read that the pins causes those problems. The soldering did not fix it, my windows, sunroof and interior lights wont work because it keeps burning fuse 14. How can I fix this? Help

Probably best to have the convenience system scanned by a dealer or VW specialty shop. Sometimes a door lock mechanism fails and doesn't recognize that it's been unlocked.

My problem is. when i turn my headlights on i get this constant ringing for at least three or four minutes... my car is a 2001 volkswagen jetta tdi.

The drivers door switch turns on/off the interior lamp BUT it is also used to signal the door open and closed position. So it is not getting a door closed signal either from the door proximity switch or I believe on VW a switch on the locks interior ! Therefore it thinks you have left your H/lights on and exited the vehicle ! Hope this get's you back on the road

The driver side door will not latch. It tries to auto lock when the rest of the door do - but wont.

try using the remote unlock - then press the remote lock. This works on my 2000 jetta tdi. VW dealership told me $450 job to change door latch and $45 to figure out if it is the latch or the NEW key they programmed a few months ago. By the way - is yours a NEW Key?
