Will high humidity affect idle speed on starting? At cold start the engine will rev at 2000 rpm or so.Sometimes it will drop to normal soon after. At other times the vehicle will surge at red lights when brakes are applied.Does not happen all the time but seems to occur with high humidity, above 65-75%.Thoughts?

SOURCE: When started idels high about 2000 rpm then drops when hot cold ?

the iac probably has carbon built up around it this controls the idle speed try cleaning it first,if not it could be a bad iac or a vaccum leak that the iac takes some time to compensate for to control idle.

SOURCE: 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start or idle

Two0 items to check...manifold air temp sender, coolant sensor and idle air control valve (may need cleaning. OK that's three...I lied.
Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7litre V8.

code P0320 no crankshaft reference at PCM.......most likey both problems are related sounds like you need to replace the crankshaft sensor, it is located on the right side of engine block, just above the starter motor, we see a lot of these fail. if you let it go to long you might get to take long walk, i will tell you what my farther used to tell me, if you don't want to fix it then don't drive it no farther then you want to walk.

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

Ford explorer 4.0 1991 high revs

not told hot or cold engine
the controls for idle are not the same , those 2 modes.
how high is high RPM,.
hot is 800 RPM regulated by PCM + isc idle valve.
cold is controlled by IAC,thermal air control valve.
and runs about 1200 to 2000 rpm,cold
cold in Florida is 1200 cold in ALASKA is 2000.
if the thermostat is bad, stuck open, and 150f coolant temp the RPM will be stuck high all the time
as will huge vacuum air leaks, the MAP sensor sees that and engine screams.
pully connectors is useless as doing so puts he PCM in limp home mode and idle controls are disabled in that mode. limp
there are lots more tests, to do. but my fingers are tired.
get shop to fix it?

03 corolla petrol revs up on its own when idling and then settles down again

R u start the car in cold morning or any cold condition? If so, it is normal revs up itself. Sometimes I see some cars revs up to 2000 rpm for 2 to 5 mins, then drop down to 1000 rpm.

High rev at cold (winter cold!) idle

Your toyota technician should know what a "cold starting solenoid" is. It is the little thing that works your throttle until the motor warms up and something else takes over. I'd suggest going to another technician.

Every time i start my car it sounds like the revs are high then settles to normal revs what is causing this

If the idle speed is above 2000 RPM then drops down to normal, the common cause is a faulty idle air control valve or a dirty throttle body.

Idle problem integra

check the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The ECM (car computer) uses that to keep idle at minimum 750 RPM. It's normal for it to run high when cold. These small 4 banger motors typically run hot, and they won't run right IF they're NOT running hot, ergo the idle is usually high when it is cold so as to cause it to warm up quicker. If the RPM's drop below 750, suspect the MAP sensor, &/or ECM.

My 2000 gmc sierra z-71 has started idleling at about 1300 rpm after driving for a while. when i turn it off and restarted it would idle fine for a while then start idleing high again. it is getting to...

I assume the check engine/ service soon light is on. Commonly the MAP sensor is the culprit, but can be TPS, CSS, even a buggy O2 sensor. Only way to be sure? (light or not) is to scan it.

Not reving high on cold start

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

When I start the engine from cold it runs on high revs too long

Hi ..... This sounds as if it's fitted with an automatic choke, as long as the revs drop when it's warm there is nothing to worry about. The indication when these start to go wrong is that the car won't start when cold ................ even then any decent mechanic can fit a normal/manual choke.
