I would first check the following: Are you getting spark at the spark plugs? If not, check the ignition coil or coil pack. Are you getting fuel to the engine? Make sure there is fuel in the tank, and that the fuel pump is working. Check all your fuses to make sure they are OK. A blown fuse to any critical engine component (ECM, ignition, fuel supply) will prevent a vehicle from starting or running.
Is it Fuel injection and electronic ignition, or still distributor and carb?
if its FI, check the fuel relay, located in the fuse box usually, not sure where for your truck specifically, but if you locate it, tap on it a few times while someone else cranks the truck, also, the fuel pump could be faulty, can you hear the winding noise when you turn on the ignition, if not, then pump is gone.
The spark issue is a tricky one since you said you have replaced the coil...
spark wires ok? coil installed properly? battery charged and leads tight? alternator working? if alternator is failing to charge the battery, then it gets to a point where you dont have enough power to make the coil spark, the engine will crank, but not enough current (amps) to fully charge coils to deliver healthy spark.
Check for fuel pressure on the fuel rail while turning the key to start,if there is fuel pressure(enough)then the injectors are not pulsing(allowing fuel into the intake). The pick up coil in the distributor, will be the problem, unless it is distribuless ignition, then the cam sensor would be at fault.
is the your car engine cranking when you try to start, first check spark plugs ignition coils, remove one ignition coil and spark plug fix the spark plug in to the ignition coil then connect ignition coil to wiring and keep spark plug body touching on ground of engine head mettle parts, ask some one to crank engine then you can see is the plug sparking or not, do the same way to all the coils and plug otherwise you have to buy a ignition spark tester, is the all the coils and spark plugs are OK then check the fuel pump, it's sitting in under rear seat, before that do one thing disconnect oxygen (O2) sensor wiring and crank engine, the thing is if your oxygen sensor completely dead fuel pump will stop working, if engine start after disconnect O2 sensor, replace new O2 sensor, otherwise need to check fuel pump relay fuse and fuel pump. is this information helped you? please vote me and give a comment.
Items to check out: Battery and battery cables (Load test battery and make sure cables are clean and tight especially the B+ cable off the starter).
Listen to the cranking speed of the starter. Does it sound normal or slow? Depending on what you hear you may want to do a starter current draw test or have a shop do it for you.
If all of the above are a-ok then move onto fuel and ignition checks.
When you put the key into the ignition and turn it to on position do you hear the fuel pump buzz?
No buzzing sound ... you could have either a bad fuel
pump or relay. To test the relay use the shop manual .But you can use a jumper wire to jump the B+ terminal off the relay to the pump motor terminal off the relay and see if the pump runs. Before you do this make sure there is B+ off the relay B+ terminal. If the pump doesn't run, the pump is your problem. To verify the relay works there has got to be B+ going into the relay and coming out of it to juice up the pump. Use a voltmeter to verify this. Good luck
Unscrew a spark plug attach it to its wire and ground its electrode . Crank engine and look for spark. Or use a spark tester.
No spark! Now check plug wires and coil. How? Use shop manual for correct testing procedure .
If no spark is found coming from the coil then check B+ coming from battery to coil and ignition module. And check the ignition module. REMEMBER IF YOUR GETTING SPARK, THERE IS NO NEED TO TEST THE MODULE.
Lastly not likely , ignition switch should not be left out of the equation. Your gonna need the shop manual for that test procedure. Good luck
