That's a load of **** they are feeding you.The timing chain tentioner has a fault and not tentioning the chian.I think you have done a good thing keeping it on synthetic oil. That causes less wear on moving parts than other oils.

SOURCE: I need to know how

I really hope you know what you're getting into.....Big & detailed job. I went on and posted the instructions as far as removal and installation of the timing chain. There is a whole other section that you need as far as removing the oil pan and strainer but way to much to post on here at this point. Anyhow, it's a 2 piece oil pan and just to let you know alot of the parts like the timing chain cover, oil pan, the cover on the timing chain cover does not have gaskets and Nissan doesn't either. You have to use some RTV and don't go cheap, get the good stuff because all the work that is involved in this you don't want to have to repeat because of a leak. Also the oil pump is in the timing chain cover and Nissan has had some problems in the past with them. I would suggest going online and finding a new oil pump that comes pre-installed in a new timing chain cover. You can pick the whole assembly including the cover for about $150.00 and worth it. Wish you were here I have one ready to go. Anyhow, email me at [email protected] and what I can do is send you the engine management section of my service manual in a PDF so you have the info on the oil pan removal.....You need it. It will also have all the stuff I am posting below so you can make it big enough to see or even print out if need be and no there isn't a cost for it. I'm in a good mood....lol. I hope this helps. Here is the timing chain instructions for you.

I need the timing marks for 2006 Nissan Altima Sl

There should be timing marks on the cam gears which, with a new chain from Nissan, will line up with specially colored links in the timing chain at Top Dead Center. This forum post goes into a bit more detail: Timing marks on the cam chain

2006 nissan altima 2.5 balance shaft assembly timing

Before I replaced the balance shaft assembly chain on my 2004, the marks on the chain weren't lined up with the marks on the sprocket. When I installed the new chain, I just lined up the marks. (Had to rotate balance shaft independent of crankshaft to do this) Wasn't any noticeable vibration before or after, not really sure why the marks weren't lined up before.
Hope this helps.

I cant find the oil pump on a 2006 Nissan Altima

On both the four cylinder and six cylinder engines the oil pump runs off the crank shaft. The front cover and timing chain needs to removed in order to replace or repair the oil pump. It is not a very common repair. Is there a reason you are looking for it?

Timing chain noise on nissan altima 2005 change oil for syntetic 5 w 30 and it got worse before did it only when cold now is doing it at all the times

The timing chaing noise is very common on almost all v6 nissan engines. There is a significant difference for the maxima's though.

Timing chain noise is very common and it is the result of the secondary timing chain tensioners. They often stick and put too much tension on the chain and the plastic guides for the tensioner wear down to metal and that is the noise you hear.

At Nissan, I have performed this replacement many times and I suggest you take it to the dealership to have it fixed.

'94 Nissan Altima rattles

Hi there,
you will need new upper timing chain and sprockets. Common problem on altima your year. Nissan has TSB for it. First they had us remove the upper timing chain guide, but after that, they had us replace all top chain components.
