Fuel pump problem?

I bought a 1991 Isuzu pu with no motor. I got a 2.3 Isuzu motor that was in real good shape. we installed and I added a electric fuel pump. The truck runs great until it decides to shut down for no reason at all. I will be driving down the freeway and then it sounds like the fuel pump shuts down. I can here the fuel pump still running and it is driving me nuts.

i had the same problem on my 2002 Axiom, I took it to the dealer and they said the blower motor is going out. They replaced it with a new one and it works fine now!

SOURCE: 94 isuzu trooper turn key fuel pump runs for 2sec.and shuts off?

Can you hear a click during that 2 secounds? Thats the relay shutting off the pump just what its suppost to do. The pump does not run contenuosly, if it did it would burn up, thats what the relay is for, it kicks on and off to maintain the correct pressure to engine as needed. It will not turn back on until it resets itself because engine was not running, thats the way there designed.

SOURCE: Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.

SOURCE: 991 Isuzu 2.6l petrol runninf problem!

I realise you have probably solved this problem by now so sorry for the late news mate . Had a similar prob and it turned out to be an alternator malfunction . I replace the brushes and off she went . These things send voltage from the alt . to a fuel pump relay or whatever so the pump wont run if the eng isn't (or the alt isn't outputting any voltage.) . Hope you already had it sorted . But I hope this helps if not . Cheers Simon .

Hi good morning. Im having trouble with my shut off motor of my isuzu injection pump, could i install solenoid inline with the supply tube?

you could but it would be not efficient as fixing the unit on the pump
If there is a problem in that area , talk with a specialist diesel pump repair shop as they will have a replacement or fix idea for your problem
indications are that motorized unit is the fuel supply pump and being an inline pump , the shut off is normally a solenoid that acts on the fuel rack moving it to a no fuel position

I have a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo with a V6. When I take the air cleaner off I can see gas leaking from some sort of modulator or something just to the right at the very top.

which engine?
The V6 , it has a real name.
there were 3 v6s used.
what displacement?
sounds like the 3.1L GM V6, not the isuzu 3.2. (2 kinds too)
The GM is the LG6 engine, GM name.
the last carb car , in USA was ISUZU, in 1994.
and before that some very odd , electric carbs. (avoid those)
in 1991
there were 4 engine (1 I4 and 3 V6)
ONLY the 2.3L 4 banger was carb , 2 barrel;
the 3.1L is and was, TFI , so is NOT A CARB.
This TFI has a Real ECU, (EFI system)
and the injector does have seals and can leak.
buy a seal kit and put it in,.
TFI means throttle body injected, x2 in this case
the book shows how to do this, (at mitchells) log in, and read?

the steps. are clear.
he engine is equipped with 2 fuel injectors; both are located in the throttle body.
  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. (ask)
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4. At the injector electrical connectors, squeeze the 2 tabs together and pull them straight upward.
  5. Remove the fuel meter cover and leave the cover gasket in place.
  6. Using a small prybar, carefully pry the injectors upward until they are free of the throttle body.
  7. Remove the small O-ring from the nozzle end of the injector. Carefully rotate the injector's fuel filter back-and-forth to remove it from the base of the injector.
  8. Discard the fuel meter cover gasket.
  9. Remove the large O-ring and back-up washer from the top of the counterbore of the fuel meter body injector cavity.

Isuzu 1991 rodeo wont start

ok look in the fuse box, if possible, exchange a fuse equal to the fuse relay, if it starts the problem is solved, if not, that`s not the problem, and additional diagnostics will be required, also, add about 2 or 3 additional gallons of gas to the tank, then for total fuel diagnostics only, get some starter fluid, spray a couple of good size squirts in the throat, if it start, bad fuel pump

1991 s-10 pu//////electric fuel pump not working,is it a blown fuse

i'll try to help. have you checked the fuses and the relays under the hood in the black fuse box? with the key in the on position, can you hear the fuel pump humming? you may have to turn the key on and off several times 15 seconds at a time. if all fuses are good and the fuel pump relays good, try with key on, tap on bottom of gas tank to see if the pump will start to hum. if pump does start to hum, you'll need to replace that pump soon. you may get a couple of starts out of it, but usually not very many. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Underhood fuse block swap out relay #7 thats the ECM relay.
Ground Circuits Using a DVOM, touch negative voltmeter lead to a good ground. Touch positive voltmeter lead to each ground terminal. With vehicle running, voltmeter should indicate less than one volt. If reading is greater than one volt, check for open, corrosion and loose connection on ground lead. See ECM GROUND LOCATION table for ECM ground location.

not swaped witch they cant be because it wouldnt run (thinking on keyboard) LoL-- Also check Fuel presure regulator. Hope this Helps you.
