Use a scanner to check the abs system . most of the time the abs brakes and traction control system work together. your cruise control . unit has a servo motor .in front right fender well. check the fuse and relay also the cruise control brake release switch. and the brake light switch.if all is good you have a cruise control module problems. dealer ship job.

2003 oldsmobile alero v6 -- cruise control stopped working...The cruise on/of button lights up, the green light cruise indicator comes on in the dash panel, but cruise control does not engage when CST SET...

Try checking the small switch at the top of the brake pedal. There may be two one for brake lights and one for the cruise control. To ascertain what is what, pull one wire off and see if brake lights work. If not, then the other switch controls the cruise control disconnect and engage..I you have a DC test light check to see if power is on on both side of the switch with brake pedal up. If so, depress pedal and check power on the other side there should be none, if there is the switch is defective.

Warning lights remain illuminated, Alero

First check for error codes (DTCs) to see if you can determine the problem.

does the anti-lock brake light come on too? and ive found the best way to reset codes manually is disconnect the battery terminals pos. and ground. then touch them together( the battery cable terminals) their is a copasitor that will store enough power to hold your codes in the ecm. this way you are essentially grounding the system to drain all residual power stores

Where is the traction control switch located on a 99 oldsmobile alero?

LOOK FOR ETS BUTTON ON THE CENTER OF THE CONSOLE.THE INDICATOR LIGHT WILL TURN OFF BUT LONG AS CURRENT NEED TO LIMIT WHEEL SPIN THE TRAC LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON.TAKE VECHICLE TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.HAVE THEM SCAN THE ABS AND TRAC CONTROL SYSTEM.MOST OF THE TIME A BAD WHEEL SENSOR WILL SET OFF TRAC WARNING LIGHT.

What is trac off

Trac off simply means that your traction control system is turned off. This light generally comes on when your car is started for a while like many of the lights just to ensure everything is working. It does sound like you have some kind of problem developing but it's very unlikely that it has anything to do with the traction control system. Generally in mid-priced cars like the alero all traction control does is either stop power to the wheel slipping or apply gentle brake pressure to the tire that's slipping. Just get a diagnostic run would be my suggestion. You can turn the traction control off yourself if you want to understand it better, many car enthusiasts do so as it allows you to use sliding and traction loss to your advantage. Leaving traction control on does generally increase safety for your average driver, but makes it virtually impossible for an experienced driver to perform any of the stunts we often see in racing.
