SOURCE: Broken hood release cable 1996 Ford F150 pickup

On each side of the latch there is an 8mm screw that can be removed through the front, between the hood and grill They are aprox 6" apart.

The latch itself has two locator pins that slide into the front suppoprt behind the grill.

After removing the two screws, gently pry the whole latch away from the support. The hood can be raised, taking the latch with it.

Access to the release lever is behind the latch. It is now exposed.
pull the tiny release lever toward the drivers side and latch will come loose. Good luck!

SOURCE: hood release will not release hood cable is not broken

the outer cable may have come loose near the lock, if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille and you will have access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lock lever aside to unlock the bonnet

SOURCE: Broken hood release cable how to open hood

you can often release the hood latch from under the car, or through the grille, by reaching up to the hood latch mechanism with a long screwdriver or pliers, or a piece of coat hanger, whichever works in your particular case. G/L

SOURCE: The hood release is broken from inside the car

No by pass however there should be.
You have to lay under the car and with a light see if you can identify where the cable connects to the hood latch control, follow the black tubular plastic cable , should be in the center of the hood just in front of the radiator, with a lot of luck a long handled straight bladed screw driver may be able to open the latch by prying the latch in the right spot, be careful not to bent the latch because it is not made of the highest quality forged steel.
If the grille can be removed that will greatly help with a perfect vision as to what and where the latch/cable is or isn't doing and how to repair it.

SOURCE: hood latch cable broken on 2001 cougar

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

My taillight isnt working and it is not the bulb. When i hit the brakes the light comes on but it will not work when i turn my lights on. It is the right taillight.

There are likely two elements in your bulb. One is burned out the other is not. Replace the bulb. If you did that then you likely have a short in one of the wire wires leading to the holder. Can be tested with a low voltage tester.

The transmission will not move in drive. the vehicle has been sitting in a garage for 1 yr. It will move in reverse. The vehical is a 1989 merkur xr4ti

Make sure the car is warmed up to operation temp and then check the transmission fluid level to make sure its full and fill if needed .... Does all forward gears not work try reving the motor some to get it to kick in the torque converter could be the problem or a broken gear.....but if it worked fine when it was parked I would bet on just some sticky valves in the transmission ...Good luck hope this helps some
