O/D flashing 2000 Ford ranger xlt 4.0 4x4

I recently had the codes read and the tranny shop told me the torque converter was failing to lockup. everything shifts fine until the light starts flashing, the guy at the shop said he would bet it was the valve body and wanted to replace it,he also said it could be the torque converter. any ideas?

00 ford ranger xlt 4x4 manual Rod bearing bolt torque specs

The rod bearing cap bolt torque specifications for the 3.0L V6 engine in a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with a manual transmission are as follows:
  • Step 1: Tighten the bolts to 15 foot-pounds of torque.
  • Step 2: Tighten the bolts to 30 foot-pounds of torque.
  • Step 3: Tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn) using a torque angle gauge.
It's important to follow the torque specifications and sequence in the manufacturer's service manual to ensure proper tightening and prevent damage to the engine.

My 2003 chevy tracker after it gets warm stalls when I put in drive . Starts right up when in park

it really sounds like the torque converter is locking up, could be a lockup solenoid or the converter is starting to fail or failed, have a tranny shop check it out. Does it not go into reverse too? That would be a dead give away.

Transmission modulator 1996 4wd Ford explorer locstion

I think this is an electronic trans with no modulator. Overdrive is really not a gear but rather torque converter lockup. Torque converter may have completely failed.

Why is my 1998 Ford Windstar 98 reading DTC P0743?

#1) Low or dirty transmission fluid #2) Wire/circuit issue shorted to power or ground #3) Failed torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid #4) Failed TCC assembly in the torque converter.....

Since Transmission has been rebuilt I would strongly suspect the TCC solenoid and/or its wiring...When transmission was rebuilt did the TCC get replaced? If so, due to being intermittent, Check the TCC plug (both female and male) for bent or dirty contacts...also insure you have close to zero ohms of resistance from negative battery post to transmission case...A poor ground will cause a problem and be at times...saailer

Why does my 2000 ford ranger seem to stop and then move forward a few more feet before stopping

Can be transmission failing to unlock from Downshift or the Lockup Torque converter is failing to unlock.

2000 ford ranger it stalls when i put it in gear it a atomatic

Sounds like the torque converter clutch is not dis-engaging. (It locks up the torque converter at highway speeds for fuel efficiency.) Try unplugging the connection at the transmission, and plugging it back in. If no help, have a shop check out the torque converter clutch operation.

P0743 is the code i got

It means the PCM (the brain) doesn't sense any current in the circuit for 'torque converter lockup'. This 'lockup' would happen when you are in high gear and going above about 45 mph. It could be a connector is loose, a wire broken, or shorted. Its not easy to poke around in the wiring harnesses going to the transmission - but if you can, wiggle and reseat each connector. Also wiggle and push in on the connectors going into the PCM next to the battery. Make sure they are fully 'clipped on'. There is probably a connector inside the transmission too - but its not reachable without dismantling things, and its unlikely it would fail. There is a computer controlled solenoid inside the tranny, which is what causes the torque conveter to lockup.
On the bright side, if your torque converter is not locking up - you can drive the car indefinitely that way. Your MPG will suffer a few percent - maybe 5%-7%. But it wont hurt the car.
