no freon in the system, a/c compressor fuse is blown, shorted wire at the a/c button,a/c button itself is broken, many many possible things. bring it to a repair shop
CHECK THE AC AND HEATER CONTROL FUSE.MORE LIKELY FUSE BLOWED BECAUSE AC COMPRESSOR COULD HAVE FAILED IF LOW SIDE IS OVER 100 PSI. THE REED VALVE PLATE IN COMPRESSOR PROBABLY DAMAGED CAUSED COMPRESSOR FAILURE BLOWED THE HVAC CONTROLS FUSE. HAVE AC SHOP CHECK IT OUT.
Thiers no way to guess on this. It could be as easy as a fuse blown or relay not turning on the compressor. Or your compressor could be bad. Or pressure switch icould be faulty. Some cars are computer controlled and a fauly computer could be the reason Usually when a computer is faulty it points toward a component that caused the computer to short out,
Best bet is have it diagnosed
AC units in vehicles are sensative components. It is highly recommended that a certified mechanic recharge or repair your system. As I recommend to others for system problems and malfunctions, I suggest taking your car to a mechanic or local auto parts store and have a diagnostics test done to determine what this problem (if any) is found. It may just be the switch in the swtich board behind the dash. You mentions a noise and a smell, which to me, indicates that the compressor (AC pump) is now faulty, however this will only be determined upon diagnosis by a certified mechanic.
