gauge could be off a little test with thermometer , remove cap and warm vehicle, do not drop thermostat in radiator check to see gauge vs. thermometer.

My tempeture gage is acting up. It will cool drop below cold and stay there for awhile. And eventually it will come back up.

You might have a bad temperature gauge switch or the electrical connection at that switch might be corroded, causing the erratic temperature gauge.

CODE 15 - Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit (Low Temp.)
It's no surprise that your mileage was affected, damage to the ECT sensor will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.

REMOVAL

Relieve engine coolant system pressure.
Turn ignition to "OFF".
Disconnect electrical connector.
Carefully back out ECT sensor.

INSTALLATION

Coat threads (only) with sealer.
Install sensor in engine, torque to 30 N-m (22 lb.ft.).
Connect electrical connector.
Refill lost coolant.

Sounds like you have a short to power or ground somewhere. Follow the wires from the sensor, and find it.
