Could possibly be a weak fuel pump.

clogged injectors you need to put cleaner in the fuel to help get dirt and grit out of them some times (every 3 months).
I am assuming you are saying it will turn over but not fire and run when cold?

- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1

- Intake air leak at cylinder

- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1
Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

For this vehicle its one or the other you are equipt with a MAF (Mass airflow meter) and a MAP(manifold air pressure) you problem will be one of these sensor, Start with the mass air flow disconnect this sensor its at the air cleaner air duct with this disconnected you should be able to accelerate(but not that good) if you can then this is the problem and a replacement is in order, Now here the tricky part the MAP is a back up just incase the MAF fails it monitor the EGR, If you disconnect the maf and it runs better you will need a maf sensor.if you replace it with a known working one and there is no difference you have a MAP problem.

it could also be the fuel pressure regulator or fuel filter that is in line or mabey the fuel injection relay i no it will not start if that blows well i hope this help please give a good rating that you
