Tapping in Engine, we replaced the lifters and timing chain tensioner.

The tapping is only when you are first starting the car and then it comes back after the car gets warmed up.

I just bought the car a few months back. Long story, but the car sat 2 years without being started.

I have changed the oil now 3 times in 5 miles, thicker, thinner oil. Didnt seem to make a difference as far as this problem goes.

Do you think the screen in the sump could be clogged? Oil pump? Also, whats the easiest way to check the oil pressure on this engine?

Also, could the timing chain be worn?

This problem bugs me! Does fine when cold, then get on the highway with engine running around 3500rpms for a few minutes, then the ticking problem. It gets louder, the longer the engine runs at those rpms.

    Thank you for your help

The next step I would take is drop the oil pan .
Check the contents.
IF clean change the oil pump and pick up screen,

The bearing could be gone.
--
If you check the oil pressure and the oil pressure is good.

The fuel system should be checked. A stuck in injector or missing cylinder.

How do i fix my 2001 740i bmw it makes a ticking sound win idleing

could possibly be a lifter tapping (Ticking) ,depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it might be time for lifters to be adjusted, most foreign overhead cam engines must have lifters adjuster periodically ,if you turn on the air its puts more of a load on the engine causing a louder sound (also check oil level an engine low on oil will start to tick too.. the more wear the engine gets the looser the lifters can get over time ,look in your service manual if you have one and see what the intervals are on lifter adjustment this can give you an idea.
possible only if
the ticking sound is coming from the top of the engine usually comes from under the vavle covers where the lifters are located,

Hi, my golf mk1 1.6 1995 model makes a tapping sound when i drive it but it stops when i idle

Sounds like to me a small exhust leak either
a exhust manafold gasket or exhust flange
gasket or cracked exhust manifold.
Anything else would be enteral meaning
valves need to be set, bad lifter, bad rod bearing,
bad oil pump, or timing chain tensioner,
BUT I would be willing to put my money
on an exhust leak or timing chain tensioner
it's one of the 2

95 camaro 3.4 l replaced head gasket & timing chain now hard to start but does start when i give gas pops through throttle also here lifter tapping

recheck the valve timing as it appears that you may be a tooth out on the chain and you have an inlet valve not quite closed . The tapping may be the piston just touching the valve head from the wrong timing

Ticking noise at front of motor. I've been told it

Could be somethin with the timing chain. What engine is in your mustang? Is it OHV or OHC? If its ohv then you could have a lifter tapping.

Is valve adjustment a part of normal maitenance on Suzuki Esteem

When you hear some tapping, that's why you need -valve adjustments. At 137,000miles you probably need more than that to continue your trouble-free drives.

2000 suzuki esteem gl with 1.8 liter dohc I dont whether to describe it as a tap or a knock, but i seem to hear it after i've been driving on the highway for awhile, but only hear it when idling or at a...

Have you ever had your timing chain replaced? If not, then most likely your timing chain is getting loose and starting to tap on the sides of the housing. This is normal after probably 110-130000 miles, so you may consider this. DOHC engines don't have the lifter tapping problems that pushrod engines have. The reason you only year the timing chain tap at idle and when warm, is the metal expands when it warms up, making the chain slightly longer. At idle, chains and belts "flutter," or shake back and forth. when the engine speeds up, it puts more tension on the chain and it stops.

BMW 318i M42 Engine tapping and other noise. Have video

could be the oil pump. Had the same problem w/ E 30. Installed a pressure gauge and check performance at different speeds. Pressure was consistently low against specs. Change the pump . . problem gone.

1993 BMW 42m Tapping in Engine

sounds like a weak oil pump, but that could be indicative of a worn engine, i would replace the oli pump first to rule it out.

Engine knock noise on cold startup

these 3.3l engines are equipped with timing chains. if vehicle has prolonged down time, typically more than 4 hours, vehicle makes a chatter until the timing chain tensioners put tension on the chain. you will need them replaced.
