Determine what cylinder is misfiring and do a compression test on that cylinder. Compare it with a cylinder that is not misfiring. You should have no more than 20% difference between the good cylinder and the bad cylinder. If it is low on compression, suspect a burn valve or bad valve seat... and it will require cylinder head repair. If it is good on compression, then look for a faulty injector or some other reason for the misfire on the dead cylinder.
Hi, I'm trying to find the same thing but for a 1998 Sonata EF. :( The internet is hopeless too! They keep saying their not available anymore from 96 to 98. Goodluck if you find one.
ON THE CAMS THERE IS A MARK ABOVE AN I FOR INTAKE AND AN E FOR EXHAUST LINE UP THE I UPWARD TOWARD THE MARK ON THE BACK OF VALVE COVER AND LINE THE E ON THE EXHAUST SIDE MARK WITH THE MARK ON THE VALVE COVER AS FOR THE CRANK THERE IS AN MARK ON THE BACK OF THE SPROCKET WHICH WILL LINE UP WITH THE A MARK ON THE BACK OF THE COVER GOOD LUCK
cyl #1 misfire. could be spark plug, wire, coil. for easy things. could be engine problem. check the easy. has it been a while on tune up parts? if this model has the plug wire than go straight down it the valve cover to the plug...good place to look. if oil from a leaky valve cover is around the wire and plug, it will set the code.
Did you do a compression test on those two cylinders ? Check spark with spark tester ? of course the advance is going to jump around with a missing engine . Timing issue ,jumped time , engine mechnical problem . Testing an not guessing .
spray carb cleaner on the intake manifold near cylinder 1... common problem is the intake manifold gasket leaks vacuum causing a misfire...the not starting could be due to a faulty crank sensor
