You can take out the spark plugs and turn the motor over by the frt at the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer(or lower pulley),with the plugs out it should turn over pretty easy.

Drop the starter down and see if it spins freely when you turn the key if it does then it might be to tight without shims. Also have you checked the battery and made sure it is ok,or try jumping the truck with another veh? You can put a volt meter on the battery and see what happens when you try and start the veh,if it drops below 11 volts then you should replace the battery.

Check battery charge level. If OK, check electrical connections. Check voltage drop across starter.

Nissan frontier starter binds the flywheel

You need to put shims in between the starter and the engine block. You should be able to pick them up at your local auto parts store.

I have a 89 lwb silverado v6 It will turn over well the starter will turn over but nothing on the belt will spin. I can turn everything on the belt over by hand but when I go to crank it the starter just...

If the lower pulley on the front of the engine does not turn when the starter is engaged then the problem is either that the flywheel is missing teeth (usually very noisy) or the bendix drive in the starter has broken. That is replaceable if you are good with that kind of thing but if the starter is old, it may not be worth the effort. (so just change the starter). There could also be a problem with the front pulley but that is extremely rare.

Sierra 1500 wont turn over 350. locked up???

Have the battery tested for a dead cell. It may test at 12 volts but that doesn't mean there isn't a dead cell. Also, if the motor has good compression you probably shouldn't be able to turn it over by hand at the fly wheel. Maybe an old school motor with V belt, but not a newer motor with all those accessories attached to the front.

My 1986 GMC Sierra Classic K1500 4x4 350 engine has problems starting . The starter hits the flywheel or it meshes but can't turn the flywheel over. The starter is new. Would the battery size have anything...

The starter should have come with shims. You may have to adjust the new starter with the shims, so that the bendix, starter drive, meshes properly with the ring gear.
As long as the battery is fully charged it should turn the engine over.
Please let me know what you find.

When I try to start my 1986 GMC Classic Sierra 1500 the starter sometimes grinds against the teeth of the motor , I had to change last starter because its top shield was shattering. Could someone help me?

Yes your problem because you have changed the starter then you have 6 bad 1/2 worn teeth on the FLYwheel and the only way to fix your problem is to either remove the engine OR gear box and remove the flywheel and have a new starter ring fitted to flywheel and refit what was removed and away you go finished ...
THEother way to start every time till you do it is to HAND brake off put in 1st gear and turn engine over 1/2 a turn ,and then it will start every time, as the engine will stop the same place every time so thats were the 6 worn teeth are. Have a goodday
Let me know hoe you get on Ron

My 89 gmc 1500 will not turn over

Did you check your ground wire?If ground is good check to make sure your solenoid wire which is purple usually if it is broke if not get a test light and have someone turn motor over to crank position and check if power there if so more than likely ground problem. If solenoid has no power move to fuses under drivers dash..
