The check engine light stays on. I have also have had to put a least 2-3 litres oil in once a month. There is no leaks on driveway and not blowing blue out of tail pipe. There is some oil on top of engine. I need the car for a trip from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA, and I was told if I put an engine no leak in it would be fine for trip is this true? I was also told I would have have motor stripped down to fix problem. Please help.
Hi, oil leaking down into the spark plugs causing problems, in the 4.6 the plugs go way down from the top and can get full of oil, pull one boot plug up and out inspect one at a time to see how bad the oil leak is. it needs gaskets but should be okay to go back and forth once, needs valve cover gaskets now..jm

there is a small heater hose on the pass side rear from the firewall(heater core) to the intake manifold. the plastic manifolds have a tendency to split where the hose fitting goes into the intake. If that is where it is leaking the manifold needs replacement.

Check your gas cap. If someplace can test it you might luck out. This website advertises manuals and info online. The evaporator cannister is suppose to purify excess fuel vapors. But a system which is not sealed will code an error lamp.

Instead of removing the intake manifold and the the leaky manifold coolant hose, we simple place a 1" dia hose about 3" long with a **** down it so it can fit around the leaky coolant hose with two hose clamps and an agressive amount of "right stuff" silicone sealant and let stand for 24hrs which should fix the problem

If no compression test done, and engine running good, I'd doubt i'd let anyone talk me into a tear down of my engine, without a real good explanation why & what they're doing it for. Have you considered a second opinion before you decide, or are repair shops a little scarce in your area. If it's not burning that oil, I'd really like to know where it's going. Do you smell anything, or see any smoke for engine after a 50 mile or so run and lift the hood?
What engine, & how many miles on it? Has anybody looked to see what is causing the oil on top of engine? It may be as simple as a leaking sender.
