Check brake transmission shift interlock fuse BTSI. check the NSBU fuse.which is the transmission neutral switch.if all is good check brake light switch.make sure brake lights working if not check fuse.when you apply brake that will energize brake transmission shift interlock solenoid.so you can shift out of park.if brake light switch is okay and fuse good.the brake transmission shift shift interlock solenoid could be faulty.

SOURCE: 1999 F350 crew cab 4x4 ford, gear shift lever

Ok ready to stand on your head under the dash?
It's doable... there is a flange connected to the gearshift lever under the steering column. If you remove the lower dash cover where the fuses are, you should be able to see it when you move the gear shift lever... look around on the floor of the truck to see if you dropped a star-headed bolt or two... these bolts worked loose on my superduty and made shifting very difficult..it was an easy fix... let me know how you do on it.

SOURCE: shift lever locked

Brake switch going bad or shift lock solenoid going bad. The brake switch controls the shift lock solenoid. When you press the brakes it releases the shift lock solenoid to allow movement of the shifter.

this is not on your car but it will give you an idea how the system works.

SOURCE: 2004 Chevrolet Aveo Brake lights not working

A couple of days ago my brake lights on my 2004 Chevy Aveo wouldn't work, so I attempted to remove the lamp covers to check the bulbs. Also, before this my shifter would get stuck in park and could only be released by pressing the unlock gadget next to the shifter. Back to the brakes...Well, you open the trunk and remove the two screws just like the manual said, but it was very hard to pull off. There's 2 prongs holding the other half of the light on. The lamp will come loose by prying it (very hard). You think the cover will break, but it'll come loose. The bulbs were all OK.

After much frustration and internet info, the STOP LAMP SWITCH, GM#96436331 ($9.30 at Chevy dealer), which is located under the dash and has contact with the brake pedal, was defective. Once replaced, both my brake lights AND SHIFTING problems were cured. So if the brake lights suddenly don't work or you have problems getting the vehicle out of park, check the switch by pushing the prong (end that has contact with brake) of the switch in and out. If it doesn't retract smoothly...that's the PROBLEM. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 2004 expedition will not shift out of park. The

sadly this could be several different electrical issues on the cheap side. this vehicle has a shift interlock which will not allow the vehicle to shift without the brake depressed. it operates an electric solenoid that pulls a pin to unlock the shifter. its a SLIGHT possibility that it could be a bad fuse. i hope you r that lucky and this helps in some way

Reverse lights not working for a chev lumina 2007

You checked the reverse bulbs, too?
If so, then it could be the switch on the gear shift or the wire between that and the bulbs.

I have a 1994 Chevy Lumina Van with a 1.8 engine. When I start the van the Service antilock brakes stays on, the electric window don't work, the heater/aircondition also don't work. Also when I put the van...

OK, you have some issues and it can cost you some money. Service anti-lock brakes: What do you mean it stays on. The light on the dash? The electric window, could be one of two things, either the switch or the window motor itself. You can probably buy the switch on ebay cheaper than auto zone or whatever. The motor is in the door panel. To take that off, you need to drill into the rivets. It shouldn't be that hard since they are aluminum. Then replace it with a new bolt of the right size, washer and a nut. You will need three of each. As far as your transmition, if you want to keep the cost down, drain the transmition fluid. Change the filter, clean the magnetic plate on the pan and replace the gasket it you need to. You can use the same one if your current gasket has long teeth on one end.
