I'm trying to disconnect the strut from the steering knuckle. I got the nuts off the bolts but the bolts feel like they're welded in. I've tried my breaker bar and an impact wrench. I've even put a 4' pole on the breaker bar to get more leverage. The GM Service manual doesn't say anything about the bolts being attached to the car. It's vague but it implies you just take them out.

i would hook the strut back up and remove lower ball joint you will need to have a long bar for leverage put bar between the lower control arm and frame pry down and ball joint will seperate from spindle then you should have enough room to remove shaft

I don't see a question here... You know what's bent... Replace it, and have the front end aligned after you're done!!! Replacing is just a take it out, put a new one back in. No tricks etc!!!
Good luck

SOURCE: Replacement strut too long
no the more the strut has dosnt matter the strut sinks to the proper height when its put in and the smalll plate is put on this stops the strut from moving make shore that its screwed as tightly as possible to the rubber fitting around it :). then screw the plate on(have someone stand on the bumber to get it as tight as possible for the strut) the plate with push the stut down to a point then stay till you drive again
