"OILSERVICE" message in dash on after oil change

If the dealer can't figure it out, chances are no one here can either. I would lay it at the dealers feet, as they are ultimately responsible, but if I had to guess I would think your car has a bad ground wire somewhere. The electrical interference will cause all kinds of weird gremlins to come out.

Sounds like you need to reset your Oil life/ maintenance reminder light. (also, double check your oil level)

To reset Oil life on a standard dash stlye:
1. pres and release the TRIP/RESET button until the message center displays SETUP MENU HOLD RESET
2. Press and hold the TRIP/RESET button for 2 seconds until the message center displays RESET FOR SYS CHECK
3. press and hold the TRIP/RESET button for 2 seconds until the message center displays OIL LIFE xx% RESET IF NEW
4. Press and release the TRIP/RESET button until the message center displays HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL
5. Press and hold TRIP/RESET button for 2 seconds and release to reset oil life to 100%
6. Message center will briefly display OIL CHANGE SET TO 100%


With a message center cluster the procedure is as follows:
1. press and release SETUP button until message center displays PRESS RESET TO BEGIN SYSTEM CHECK
2. Press and release RESET button until the message center displays HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL
3. Press and hold RESET button for 2 seconds and release to reset the oil life to 100%
4. The message center displays SETUP MENU HOLD RESET

you have a cartridge filter on a 3.5, it is not a screw-on metal canister like most oil filters...the cover that has to be removed to take out and install the new cartridge is made of plastic and you might have a leak there-but I would suspect either the oil pressure sensor or the wiring or connector needs checking or cleaning. You should be using 5w-30 oil, and the capacity is 6 quarts. If you get a warning when cold that goes away when warm, it is not an engine problem but is a sensor problem, oil gets thinner as it warms, dropping pressure. Since your display trips when cold (higher pressure) it sounds like a sensor issue, and the module itself (the display on the dash) can also go bad on these cars.

Possible that the OIL filter is clogged and is reducing the pressure due to this when the engine is idling or in low RPM. So before you run the engine further and make it more damaging , it is worth to have the engine oil / oil filter changed. If there is still no result, check the oil pressure switch. If not the oil pump can be faulty. This needs a technical help and should be consulted.

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.

3. Turn the key to OFF.

If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

THIS MEAN TIME TO CHANGE OIL AND OIL FILTER.

Most often you need a code reader with a reset function that can connect to the computer jack under the dash and reset factory functions like that. Pain in the tush if you are changing your own oil. Mechanics and dealers have the equipment to do that reset.

this is not oil change light but oil pressure. did it come on before or after oil change? if after it could be a bad or wrong oil filter. if not hopefully it is a bad oil sending unit. otherwise u got motor problems!

the Change Engine Oil message is diplayed in the driver information center when the oil change is due ,,,,, to RESET display message , press the INFO button to display the ENGINE OIL LIFE message , ,, Press and Hold the RESET button untill 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE is displayed.
