Steering wheel locks up when parked

The ignition lock includes the steering wheel lock. It's possible that it just needs lubrication, or that the lock part has broken. In either case, taking the covers off the steering column sounds like your next move.

find out if steering lock. I think there is no more lock for steering wheel

Wiggle the steering wheel while moving the shift lever.Sometimes the lock pin for the wheel gets stuck in the lock plate .

This happens to most power-steering cars when you park your car and the wheels are not pointed straight ahead. When you turn off the car the centering device in the car steering locks hard against steering wheel lock. You have to pull the wheel hard in one direction or the other while attempting to unlock the steering.

As only the ignition key can lock the steering wheel and stop the motor at the same time I would suggest you replace the ignition lock. This is dangerous. Get it checked out.

try this..turn the steering wheel as hard as you can until it locks(any direction)then put key in ignition and holding wheel over (anyway)turn key to start car.then when you park up turn wheel over 1/2 turn to park...should work...(toyota have an antitheft steering lock)the wheel will turn when steering lock is on.rather than break lock.please do not try to see if it works....only works once...and not in handbook...

Could be a couple of things, the pin that locks the steering wheel could be failing to activate.

Try one thing, with vehicle parked, key off, take the steering wheel and rotate it back and forth a bit to see if the wheel locks at that point. I have seen some vehicles require that. (Manufacturer would not call this a problem if it does lock up after rotating the steering wheel.) May have to turn the wheel as much as 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn. (OK, 1/4 a turn is a bit much, but hard to gauge how much rotation you are doing.)
