The body style was the same from 1996 to 2000 for the Honda Civic. Are both of the Civics similar in body style as in they have the same number of doors? Not sure if a wagon or hatchback would interchange with a regular 2 door coupe.

Yes do the same inspection as 100k. I.E. Replace water pump. Load test alternator. Change all fluids, repack wheel bearings and fuel pump.

Find and repair the metal rings tinkling. it could be a safety problem. You will also need a complete safety inspection, to include body and frame.

Congratulations on making it to 180k. BUT you have a 300k car.

NOTE:
I drive a 1984 dodge charger with 160k on it.

In order to replace the water pump you would have to do the timing belt. Don't know if you are aware of how involved and the kill level it requires.

Your most popular alternator for that car is a Bosch or Lucus.Bosch is the better one

take to a local rebuilder most likely starter common honda problem

first of all since you have a hand held i figure you have a volt meter. locate battery wire to the back of your alternator while eng running test output voltage of alt. if less than 13.25v replace ( not with a autozone unit ) actually it should say 14.-16.v im glad you had your battery load tested. lets fix the charging system first of all at that point we will go from there.
