Here we go. Battery is dieing, had the battery checked it's good, had the alternator checked it's good, had the starter checked he said the solenoid bad, replaced starter. Still have the problem. Checked alternator output 14.15 Good, Checked charge going to battery same, good. I had the battery charged, hooked up the ground and checked the draw through the positive almost 12 amps. I have a short somewhere. I started pulling fuses under the hood. The 50 amp fuse (RAP)has draw all the time, What is RAP stand for? Manual does not tell me. These are the big fuses at the top of the box. I replaced the Stock radio with another stock radio so I pulled the those fuse all ok. What do I do next?

Thank You for the information. I took the fuse out and will check the battery tomorrow. The only device that stays on with the key off that I can tell is the Radio. Now I turn the truck off and the radio goes off. I don't know what I could have done putting the new old radio in. Just a couple of clips and plug in the wires done.

Thanks again I did not know anything about RAP now I do.

RAP stands for Retained Accessory Power. It is the circuit responsible for powering accessories when the key is off. Sounds like something is staying on that shouldn't. Hard to say what though with the information here. if this started happening right after you put in the new radio i would check into that. otherwise start checking accessories like power mirrors, seats, locks and see it something is staying on that shouldnt. i good one to check would be the glove box light or the light under the hood. you can unplug them and then test your draw to see if thats where is was.

Solenoid clicks but doesn't turn starter. Tested starter, it's fine. Battery is grounded well. Alternator is still good. Battery brand new. I'm stumped. Help?

The alternator would not come into play until the engine starts.
If the starter works on a test machine, and the battery tests ok, it has to be a connection problem or the engine is stuck.
Can you check voltage at the starter terminals with a meter ?

Just clicks when ignition is turned

Check battery. If a jump starts the car and then it dies shortly after then your alternator is bad if it does not die or does not start from trying to jump start then it is your battery. Your battery may be dead if the alternator went bad because the alternator was not charging it like it should and the battery was running the vehicle. which sounds as if it may be the case. Hope I could help.

Going down the road acts like running out of gas ,dies will not turn over again battery has full charge and clean, good connection but stell will not turnover till it has sat for a couple of days.then it...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You may have a bad connection to the battery. Make sure all wires are tight and secure, also make sure the ends and post are cleaned. Your alternator may be going bad. If you can get it to start, start it and take the hot side battery terminal off, the red one. If it dies instantly, your alternator is going bad. If not, the alternator is good. Your starter may be going dead. Find it. One of the hot side battery wires goes to it. Follow the wire. Hit it a few times. See if the car will start. If the inside has power, the battery is fine. Check your igniton fuse also. It is probably your starter or starter solenoid.

My caprice died while stopped, upon trying to restart i get a click like it wants to turn over, is this my starter gone bad?

If you know the battery is for sure, then it's the starter assembly. hope this was very helpful.

I have a 98 cadillac deville and my car won't start everytime I try to turn it on it make a consistent clicking noise...but then I charged the battery and it started up fine. Could this be the alternator...

The clicking noise is usually the starter solenoid failing to engage. In your case it sounds like it is just barely starting to fail and the new battery simply gave it enough juice to overcome and start. I would expect the problem to return soon. When it does, locate the starter and give it a few light taps with a hammer or other weighted object while turning the key. this should enable it to start. In that case you will need to replace the starter.

2002 ford ranger quit running on highway, pulled over tried to start but wouldn't crank over, starter just clicked like a dead battery. thought alternator died then drained battery. today jumped battery,...

If the starter is just clicking, then it is not,but if the starter is kicking the starter drive out,and that is the noise you are hearing then it might be,turn the crank pulley with a socket and ratchet ,clock wise,if it turns then this is not the problem, make sure the ground to the engine is good,if the ground cable has gone bad, this will happen.

Just replaced the battery and starter in my Beetle two days ago. This morning i go to drive it and the battery light comes on and so does the ABS light. Then it dies. What is wrong with it??

Ok , You need to check the wiring at the starter motor, there should be a heavy red wire going from the starter motor (battery side terminal on solenoid post) to the Alternator , This would explain your not charging and eventualy not starting. They use the starter solenoid post as a connector for the battery to Alternator. Let's know how it goes for ya .
