When you disconnect a spark plug wire, do you get spark when you crank the engine over?
If so,
When you turn the key to the "run" position (do not crank) do you here the fuel pump run for 2 - 3 seconds?
Let me know.
Regards,

Ok, You have 3 wire connectors at the distributor.
1 connector is white with a pink wire- should have 12 volts with key on. If good, go to next.
1 connector is brown with a smaller light- tan wire which is for the tach signal. Disconnect the wire and crank engine over to see if you have spark.
1 connector that has 3 - 4 wires that go into the distributor itself. This wire is for the control module and pick-up coil.
Remove the distributor cap and disconnect the module connector that goes to the pick-up coil and check resistance. 800 - 1200 ohms.
    If good, replace module.
Good luck and let me know.
    Regards,

Did you try leaving the tachometer wire disconnected at the distributor?

    What engine do you have.

  • Bruce Bracey

You are going to have to get a volt/ohm meter to test for voltage at the pink wire of the distributor and if that is OK, test resistance and short to ground of the pick-up coil to figure out why your not getting spark.

Below is a diagram of the distributor and the test for the pick-up coil, good luck, let me knowl

You have found the problem, the distributor pickup coil is open. You will have to remove the distributor, disassemble it and replace the pickup coil.
Make certain before you remove the distributor to mark the location of the distributor housing to the engine block and the rotor contact to a specific spot on the engine to align later. When you put the distributor back in, align the rotor contact to the same spot on the engine and the distributor housing to the same spot on the engine, you should be good to start.
    Good luck.
    Regards.

Try the fuse box. i had the dist. cap fuse blow and i had the same problem. Other problems could be loss of power to the fuel pump.

To get a tune up on m 95 cadillac deville what parts do I need.

I would start by getting spark plugs and spark plug wires. And find out (through part store)what the gap is for your plugs. Then i would replace the cap and rotor and check your air filter. If you have over 60,000 miles i would also change the trans.filter and fluid

Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Distributer cap
Rotor (if applicable)
Air Filter ?

Acts like it will start and will not turn over.Has fire going in distrubuter but not out

Hi Friend:

#1) Check your Distributor Cap and Rotor,Cap could be Cracked or Damaged also Rotor.

#2) Since you have 4-coils its possible that 1-or more coils are Damaged,Test each one Individually,to make sure its not a Coil.

#3) Next if All checks out on #1 and #2 ,Then it sounds like your Ignition Control Module Or your Coil Pick-up, Start with your Control Module 1st. Is only held by a couple screws and wire connectors.

#4) Your pick up coil is located below your Distributor cap,The Distributor must be removed to replace it.

#5) If your distributor cap is not Cracked or Terminals Burn't or Carbon Deposits,I would Go Ahead and Replace the Control Module, its only like 30-35.00

This will help you solve your problem, Please let me know how you come out.

94 cadillac deville 4.9L turns over strong but will not start. The car started and ran fine yesterday. Has fuel at the fuel rail and fuel pump pressurizes line when key is turned on. Only quirks lately has...

Hello, Check the distributor, remove cap and see what the rotor looks like, it may have worn through, into the distributor cap from the inside. It could also be the module and or the coil. Wish I could give you a better way to go but its where I would start first.

To reset all codes in the car:
1. Turn the key on, but don't start it.
2. diconnect the POSITIVE battery turminal CAREFULLY!
3. wait 5 seconds, then turn key off.
4. reconnect the battery.
5. Try to start it.
Have u tried the battery, gas, oil, and trans fluid?

Car starts good after you drive it starts hard or not at all after it sets for awhile it will starts

Check your Ignition Control Module. It is under the Distributor Cap and the rotor and coil next to the Air Filter. You have to take off the Air Filter Hosing to see it. It looks like a V shaped item and in mine it has 5 prongs on one side and 3 on the other.
