It's Possible you torque converter clutch solenoid/circuit may be faulty. Is you check engine light on and are you able to pull any diagnostic trouble codes? You can pull codes without needing a special scan tool. If that circuit is having problems you usually get a trouble code of 35 but the are others. You can probably google the procedure to pull codes but you can reply/comment here or feel free to email me directly at [email protected] and I will be happy to tell you how to pull codes. Will be happy to give you some testing procedures as well as soon as yoi check for trouble codes. Also check the level and condition of you transmission fluid. Hope this helped....

It sounds like you already have a Tooth Broken of of the Main 4X4 Gear inside the Transfer Case. Most Tranny Shops will rebuild these along with Tranny's. You might want to get a Rebuild or at least let them Find out Which Gear is Busted. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

SOURCE: RE: 1993 Dodge Dakota - truck won't start,

From your description, the solenoid is defective. The key (start) circuit provides power to the small terminal on the solenoid. With the key off, try shorting the small terminal of the solenoid to the large terminal that has the heavy battery cable attached. If no action, short the small terminal to the solenoid mounting bolt. One of these two actions should operate the solenoid. If nothing, the solenoid coil is open--replace the solenoid. Make sure the frame-to-engine ground-strap is intact and connected tightly on both ends.

Going from 4wd tranny to 2wd tranny

If you're going to change out your 4 wheel drive for 2 wheel drive, you will need to remove your transfer case, front drive shafts, and transmission. You will need a new drive shaft, and crossmember as well. Junk yard would be your best bet for the parts, but it doesn't make sense to eliminate your 4 wheel drive. It would be more beneficial to replace your transmission with a used one, or have your existing one rebuilt.
