I was backing up and selector jump from 2wheel to 4lo.
I moved forward and put in neutral and hit 4 wheel auto and it switch. but none of the button will work now to switch to 2 wheel .
Same problem but chevy 01 1500. Put it into 4LO and now stuck in 4LO. Replaced Vacuum switch with same kinda problem about 100K ago, GM said known problem then. Currently at 185k. Does it shift to 4wd high range ? If so then shift to 2wd . What is going on here is the transfer case motor is stopping due to the motor position sensor has gone bad which means that you replace the transfer case motor assembly. But if you wish to make it a 2wd for awhile then remove motor and manually turn shaft . This can be done by raising and supporting rear axle truck in park remove motor turn shaft slowly with pliers and rotating the play in drive shaft. There are stamped markings on back of case showing gear positions..
Check your transmission fluid level. More than likely it's either low, but since you didn't switch it to 4 low, it's probably a vacuum leak. Remember it should be in neutral to switch back to 2 wheel drive.
You can "shift on the fly" at up to 45mph - just let off the gas and pull the shifter back to 4hi. DO NOT try going to 4lo while moving.
Another way is to stop, put it in neutral, and pull the shifter back to 4hi or 4lo.
This is vacuum activated - so if you can't get it to engage - the vacuum motor is failed - or you have a disconnected or rotted vacuum line.
Cherokees have the command - track. You'll see a lever next to the
transmission shifter that has letters 2H, 4H, N, 4L on it. You can
shift from 2H (2wheel drive high range) to 4H (4wheel drive high range)
at any legal speed. If it's an automatic, I recommend just taking your
feet off of both pedals, so there's not a lot of torque being passed
thru the transfer case. If it's a standard I recommend stepping on the
clutch when you shift, but it's not necessary. To go to Neutral just
pull the shifter back one more position to the N position. To shift
into 4L (4wheel drive lo range) you must be stopped. I also recommend
shifting the transmission into neutral when you do this. Push the
shifter to the right, then pull it back.
You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.
Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Service 4X4 light's blinking . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored in the 4X4 control module.
Try starting the vehicle , place the emergency brake on , switch from drive to nuetral. with engine running try to move the 4wd handle. If your handle moves in and out of 4 wheel drive and the selector handle moves into 2wd you need to drive the vehicle to get it out of 4 wheel low otherwise the 4 wheel drive solenoid may be stuck . This is located on the front axle . round with a vacuum line coming off it. Check the vacuum line at the solenoid or it may be the solenoid. Gook luck with your fix
As far as I know the procedure should go something like this...
Stop the vehicle, engage the parking brake and if applicable, get out and turn the hubs on the front wheels from Free, to Lock.(You may not have these on a Suzuki, they may be auto-lockers)
Get back in the vehicle and put the transmission shift selector into Neutral.
If you have a manual transfer case, move the selector-shaft to 4x4-High, or 4x4-Low -- whichever is desired. Now, putting the vehicle in gear with the transfer case is sometimes somewhat difficult. As long as the vehicle's transmission is in neutral, don't worry, the gears inside the transfer case are big and beefy -- Don't be afraid to be rough -- Again as long as the transmission is in neutral. You may also have to disengage the parking brake and slightly let the vehicle roll forward or back with your foot-brake to get the Transfer case to lock into place.
Once 4x4 of the selected High, Or Low range is selected, usually indicated by the vehicle jerking slightly with a slightly loud clank/thud. Move the Transmission selector out of neutral into your desired gear (Drive if Automatic, if Manual, whichever gear you pull out from). and voila! You should now be in 4-Wheel-Drive.
To disengage 4-Wheel-Drive. Just reverse the steps.
